Goodness me what a lot of hot air.

If the authorities haven't acted against the 90 odd alleged contraventions by AL vehicles, then you have to wonder why?

It might take months to reach court, but they would have been summoned already if it was a clear cut breach of the law.

So maybe Mr Griffin is right.

Maybe it is being argued that the 1997 act is a similar enactment to the 1869 act. :?

Statement by John Griffin of Addison Lee (25.08.09)

Drivers entering thebus lane on the M4 are acting on my instruction. In my determination to act responsibly in this matter I contacted the Highways Agency who gave me written permission to enter the bus lane.

If John griffin instructed his drivers to go through red lights, would they?
If John Griffin instructed his drivers to go up one way streets the wrong way, would they?
Is the Highways agency responsible for the bus lane? I ask that because I don't know the answer.

The Higways agency is responsible for the bus lane BUT it is not an enforcement authority

Thank you for a proper answer.

The thing that bothers me about Mr Griffin's instructions to the drivers is that if a driver tries to use the line in court that "I was only following the instructions of the boss." The courts will shaft him.
Personally I think the bus lane on the M4 should be removed completly but until that happens I think it is irresponsible for Mr Griffin to instruct his drivers, well actually they are not his drivers, to break the law. The fact that he may pay any fine is a crock. It is what happens to the driver if an accident happens whilst breaking the law that would bother me.

Just how much time is saved by using the bus lane anyway. I don't use this stretch of motorway often but when I have the traffic has been free flowing and there has been no need to use it.

Some AL plum got stopped there recently using the bus lane at 10am when the road was free of traffic whilst taking a radio show host home from the airport!

He ended up with a fine and the radio jock none too happy either who went on to give them a right good slagging off on his radio show asking the obvious question "why was he even in there when the road was empty ?"

And we should allow these dim wits access to all the bus lanes ? scary!

Travelling along the bus lane takes 4 to 6 minutes as opposed to 20 minutes plus in the rush hour in the other lanes.

They probably appreciate we are truly London's finest as they are forced to travel in car's provided by Lewis Day!

Oh! how they would love to have a decent ,understandable conversation with a trained professional whilst wizzing LEGALLY through London's bus lanes watching the little people stewing with envy alongside Joe Public!!

I've been speaking to a few people this week, and I'm now 110% certain that the TFL / L.A Bus Lanes of London will be Minicab free for many years to come.

We have committment to our trade, we have a lifetime career in our trade, and we'll make sure quality rules over quantity and people who pretend to run a 'taxi' service with sub standard cars and drivers.

Every time.

You, if anyone does, should know how long cases take to appear in front of a court, especially ones where the case will go to chambers first for opinion.

(I should add, I'm not saying Mr Sussex has appeared in court for the wrong reasons!)

I should also add (2), from a selfish / personal point of view, I don't use Bus Lanes, because when I'm working at night, with about 5 exceptions, they're all out of action anyway. :-|
