I haven't seen any  There were signs on the motorway saying they were gritting but I never seen any :?

Seen one last night round here, he took a corner a little bit to fast.

It Hovered around -7 here last night, I never saw a gritter and the snow on the roads compacted into ice and even the main roads looked like the Cresta run..

All rather odd as ive seen it much colder with a lot more Snow than the 2 inches that fell yesterday...yet the roads in the past have with the exceptions of the side roads usually been clearer, I think the Local council are trying to save a few quid on overtime at the expense of the road users.

If thats Global warming then im the Sultan of Bruni.

The side streets and estates and a few main roads were really dangerous around here, I wasnt so much bothered about the roads myself, just the other idiot motorists I saw, pulling out of road junctions, being 10 yards or less from your rear bumper.

Far safer to park the cab up and play another day.

Ditto....I didnt park the car up but I didnt take any more work on that wasn't already unavoidable, my motors are more important than the profit from a few runs..most runs of which would have occurred because they didnt't fancy driving in the conditions either so they opted for the alternative. I hate to turn people away but Id turn a damn sight more away if the motor was off the road for a fortnight awaiting a body repair.

I believe I'm right when I say gritting has been scaled back this year all over the country.

As a matter of interest:

0400 this morning (Sunday) temp +2.5 deg c

After dawn, 0730 temp -1.5 deg c

According to the [uncalibrated] temperature display in my car.

I'm snowed out  I've been told it's too dangerous to go down the lanes to my home and if I get in I won't be able to get out, not to mention the motorways to get there

Absolute bloody nightmare weather.

Main roads fine, but every side-road, and most pavements, pure death-traps.

And guess which lucky b*****d kopped a blind lady going to the most iced up area, not being able to get within 20 yards of her house?

Starting overnight duty, shortly. Looks OK through the window at the moment.

The main roads in and around Grangemouth fair to good. 1 mile out, however in Polmont, on a very steep gradient, (that isn't a bus route so lower priority) kerb to kerb polished ice. One of ours, going up the hill, got hit along with a van and maybe a second car (by an late model audi) who's brakes locked (recall required, or just 400lbs of pressure on brake pedal?) on the way down. All humans are fine, but little xmas cheer for her, or her double shifter, this year.

30 mins later, again steep gradient, not a bus lane, some numpty, sick of sitting behind another of our cars, decided to overtake him. Not a problem, the road was wide enough, except there was an oncoming vehicle already on that side.

I've never been so glad of wee locals in and around town.

I find the Scariest thing of all is these ABS braking systems..brill in the dry or damp....utter liability on Ice or Snow, cant they build in an override switch to allow them to be turned off just like you can with Traction control/anti skid systems.
