Driving me mad.

How on earth are drivers meant to earn a living?

Dundee has had no heavy snow in the last few days and the roads are a bit better. It was a different story at the weekend when roads were as dangerous as i have seen it ,allot of taxis had serious bumps at the weekend. With not let up in sight i am going to have to risk it and go and try to earn a living .

We appear to be hardest hit today. 4 hours last evening for a 10 mile job and return through reasonably urban area not normally subject to weather extremes; And I did quite well. One colleague apparently moved less than a mile at the same time.

As at this moment, local motorway showing red and yellow on Google Maps and temperature just beginning to fall. Local roads treacherous and guess who's duty car tonight? That will be great fun.

I'm just pondering whether I should ask the office to do a phone round the customers to check any local airport/railway runs early morning; Or do I just leave them to the fact that the customer booked the time, I will pick them up on time; It's up to them if they haven't left sufficient travelling time. How bad will the conditions be? A quandry.

It's not something we're used to down here. Last time was 1963!

If your on duty tonight go and get some winter tyres on now

I was living at a RAF base in 1963 in Hampshire and the old man had to get out of the house by the upstairs window

Well I can only say the snow has helped me. My badge was due for renewal today and our council offer no days grace for this, unless of course it snows and they want to go home at 3pm and your appointment is at 4pm. When I spoke to them on Monday about possibly not being able to get there because of the snow where I lived they were going to think about whether or not I would still be able to renew my badge if I couldn't get there in time. Well now the snow has hit the Wirral and they need to get home so they are closing the office early. They rang me to say that my badge is ready whenever I can get to them to do it

That means you either get all the good jobs, or get lumbered with all the s*** no other driver wants.

90 % certain I'll be the only car out, and I'll probably spend most of the night sitting in the office assessing the chances of making each pick-up before we accept the job.

See that's the problem, plenty of work bearing in mind it's January, but you can't, or shouldn't, be doing it.

Good time to own a hotel, bad time to own a shop or work in the transport industry.

Clearly we are all doomed.

It might be less depressing trying to navigate all that snow and ice.

Fabulous night! Kept going most of the night. No brakes, no throttle, no drama. Had the roads to myself most of the night.

Enormous tips (comparatively speaking) from folk who were grateful for someone to move them.

Wonderful fun, when's the next lot coming!!!
