I know that my forum name is Grandad but even I was not around at that time so I don't know who was responsible.

Last week there were complaints of global warming, this week the country comes to a standstill because of snow!.. Go figure

Well Gordon Brown did say he was going to sort out global warming.

Didn't expect him to do it in a fortnight though. :D

Indeed.

I suppose we should be grateful that the bad weather came at a time when it's quiet anyway.

But for those brave souls who did work, it was like New Years Eve every day.

Good luck to them, and good luck to the body shops that are reaping the benefits.

after 3 weeks of negotiating the ruts in the ice, avoiding the idiots who were doing the same (in the opposite direction) it finally all but melted 2 days ago, and was washed clean by the rain through the night, happy days. The glee was short-lived however, as tonight, we got kerb to kerb black ice and not a gritter to be seen.

Can some one tell me how my temp thingymabob, never reached zero, but all the roads are back to being a frozen wasteland? Is it just up here or are you folks in Englandshire getting similar?

Your temp thingymabob is not calibrated and maybe slightly in error.

Also, it records air temperature. Ground temperature can be lower, hence the term 'ground frost.'

Not forgetting that ice starts to form at 4 degrees. Most cars give an ice warning at 4 degrees.

I know about the ground frost and stuff, I have a 4* warning etc. I was just a tad miffed that the ice formed so quickly and severely on what was a mild (ish) night. Besides the ground frost in the main was white and noticeable, the black ice patches were (as ever) lethal.

Maybe at your second home, but it appears it's now going to be rain. [-o<
