Because some areas currently discriminate against the wheelchair bound.........skip's area for example is awful. His firm can offer 20 percent discount unless of course your wheelchair bound

I drive what I want to drive and what I can afford and we are not restricted.
If the council introduced an all wav policy 90% of borders taxis would disappear overnight, leaving the public and the council to make other arrangements.
Incomes in rural areas are around a quarter of those that can be made in city areas
There are amply waves available covering the whole of the Borders, the councils school contracts are fully covered should a wav be required, in fact 5 families where informed that a wav would be provided as there child was in a wheelchair, they all insisted on a saloons

I dont disagree......as you know I drive a saloon myself.......but what the Equality bill will bring wont suit a lot of places.

We are all the same arent we?

No we're not all the same......thats why we have the Equality Bill.

But equality does not equal reality and probability...why should the vast majority have to jump through hoops to appease a minority that in most instances they will probably never encounter and this in itself is an inequality towards the majority as compared to the minority.

Just a thought :-k

I'm sorry but saying "there's a bloke down the road who does wheelchair taxis" isn't good enough.........your council are responsible obviously they could have brought in policy years ago.......they didn't

Of course the next question is how to get all saloons to disappear

Why would they want saloons to Disappear...Im sure a bigger percentage of the labled disabled would rather use a saloon as WAV any day.
Not every Disability requires a WAV, the only folk making a noise about saloons seems to be the owners of WAVs who appear aggreived that they have spent extra for a machine that only does what it says on the box one or twice a year at best.

That argument has been put......with the Oxley report and skips beloved european view from the IRU.

And they still go ahead.

Appears to me they dont give a sh*t..........but then again.....the cab trade dont....so why shouldnt they?

Your Right...Governments dont give a Sh*t, they rather appear Politically correct and shaft the Countries business's (Big or Small) than come up with a realistic yet practical scheme that would meet everyones needs and still allow enough business's to prosper which in turn would keep the Governments coffers full rather as see them go Cap in hand to the IMF to borrow more money.

We are all Feched up good and proper and kept in check by government debt.........oh!! the Madness of our serial money grabbing polticians..we're all Doomed!!!

I don't think it will have that kind of effect at all. Imo you will see an introduction of the WAV's over a period of time possibly as vehicles are due for renewal of licence. This in turn will see some drivers working more hours so that they can earn a little more money towards their new vehicle, more vehicles being rented due to the fact that drivers can't get finance or not wanting to get finance and a lot of drivers thinking that more drivers will give up than is in fact the reality.

We are an all WAV area and it hasn't seen a decrease in the taxi numbers it has just seen the HC's joining the PH companies to make a living and who can blame them as needs must

I wonder if this had anything to do with ph being removed from the bill

John Griffin said he had given £100,000 through his Addison Lee minicab business in the belief a Conservative government would be “positive for business”.

just a thought

Indeed it was a Tory Peer who withdrew the amendment, but it was a Labour Peer who thanked him for that.

So remind me please, where exactly does EQUALITY address the WAV driver who has queued patiently on rank and, invested a tidy sum to do so ????

Lets be honest unless the driver is on a regular contract for wheelchair users the WAV is never going to see it's full potential being used, IMO. I would say that most WAV drivers here purchase the E7 for the 6/7 seater work they can get through PH systems and not because of it's abilities as a WAV.

Whilst the vehicles are there to be used they appear to have an awful lot of broken steps and ramps on them forcing the customer to go to the vehicle behind them in the queue :? So there will be all these wonderful wheelchair vehicles on the road and behind the wheel will be the same ignorant, arrogant, , uneducated, rude drivers (present company excluded of course  )

Dearest Toots,

I suppose I could counter with those people putting on WAV's have no other choice.....and given the choice they would probably want all hackneys to be WAV......thus making the financial playing field the same.......or saloon vehicle.......thus making the financial playing field the same.
