Taxi Driver Online

A few weeks ago we had a lad start renting car from the owner of the firm. Before this guy started the owner got phone calls from other firms he'd worked for telling him not to give him a car because he'd left other firms owing them hundreds of pounds in back rent and damage to the cars.

Anyway the owner being a soft touch decided to give him a go saying everyone deserves another chance. He started 3 weeks ago and was due to pay his car rent / settle / board or what ever you call it last Monday. He phoned him up, no answer, tried again and again and again but no answer.

He decided to go over to where he lives and see if anything was wrong, when he got over there he knocked on the door to be greeted by an old man, he said is **** in? The old man said who? Owner says again ****. The old man said no he's not been here for years I've lived here for 10 years. He'd given a bogus address to the owner so the car was classed as stolen.

He got back to the office and was about to phone the Police when one of the radio ops said the Police are on line 101, he thought well it saves me phoning them. The Police said have you got a car registration number *********? The owner said yes I have why? The Police said it's just been involved in a drive off from a petrol station in Annesley, the registration and top sign were captured on CCTV. The owner explained to the Police that the car was stolen by a driver, they logged all the info and the search for the car begun.

Last night a cop car was behind him when the number flashed up on the ANPR computer in the Police car so the Police gave him a tug, they arrested him and took him to the cop shop.

The Police phoned the owner up to tell him that the car had been found and the driver had been arrested and could the owner come down and make a statement and pick up the car keys?

The owner went down to collect the car and make a statement, this is when the Police told him everything, he'd been involved in 5 drive off's 2 from the same petrol station once on a Wednesday and again on the Thursday, the other 3 locations have yet to be released by the Police.

He's out of the trade now and won't be coming back, the owner is as soft as muck when it comes to giving someone a drive, he'll trust anyone.

Just thought I'd share it with you.

Let's hope the owner has learnt his lesson.

I think he has now.

Just an update on this. The CPS decided not to proceed with the charges and let him go on Sunday morning. The owner had cancelled the insurance on the car last week so, he was running around with no insurance, he'd also been in touch with the Council who'd revoked his badge last Thursday. Driving with no Insurance, driving while not holding a badge, making off without payment of petrol x5 gets off with it all.

The owner cancelled the insurance last week??? Why would he do that? Surely with a loose cannon in the car you would still want to have it insured?

I suspect for the insurance transgression he would have been offered a fixed penalty.

I doubt it if the car had been in a rta then yes but as it wasn't they probably would do nowt about it as he was initially insured before becoming overfdue on the rent

if the owner insisted on charges for no insurance being pressed then he might also be charged as he was the owner of an uninsured vehicle !!!!
