CABBIE THOUGHT ABOUT SUICIDE
A mini-cab driver was so ashamed of being arrested for touting that he considered killing himself.
The hapless cabbie was caught red-handed after he picked up two undercover policemen on Tooley Street and offered them a lift to Covent Garden.
Anthony Samuel, 46, admitted picking his costly fare up but claimed that they had flagged him down while he was looking for a passenger that had booked him. A short time into the £15 journey on February 4 the coppers held up their warrant cards and arrested him.
Samuel told the court: "I have been in this country for six years and I have never committed a crime before. I was so ashamed when I was arrested. I was thinking I would kill myself if my son saw me in handcuffs."
He added that it had been his first day back driving after an accident in December left him unable to work.
But Samuel also found himself in trouble for not having the proper insurance for his Fiat Ulysses.
District Judge Black banned Samuel, of Ennerdale Close in Milton Keynes, from driving for six months and ordered that he pay £200 in fines and costs.
