Dartford taxi drivers seeking extra safety measures

Taxi drivers in a Kent town are calling for extra safety measures after three were beaten up in one night.

One of them ended up in hospital after being attacked outside Dartford railway station in a row over a fare.

Drivers want measures to include cameras at the taxi rank and in cabs, as in neighbouring Gravesend following the murder of a local taxi driver.

Kent Police said two men, aged 17 and 25, had been arrested in connection with the assaults on 15 February.

Dartford Borough Council was unavailable for a response about the taxi drivers' demands.

No doubt too busy to give a f***.

Let's hope it doesn't need a few dead cabbies for them to become suddenly available. Image

Pair accused of taxi driver assaults

POLICE have charged two people in connection with alleged assaults on three taxi drivers in Dartford.

Christopher Cole, aged 25, of Coopers Mews, Beckenham, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, have both been charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and two counts of common assault.

The alleged incidents took place on the night of February 15.

Cole appeared at Dartford Magistrates’ Court today and has been remanded in custody.

The 17-year-old has been bailed to appear at the same court on March 10.

Taxi drivers in Dartford want CCTV installed in their cabs, but Dartford Council says funding is not available.

He is either out on license, on bail for something else, or has jumped bail in the past.

Let's hope the trial is delayed for six months. :D
