I will ring my mate Nigel (an autobox mega-expert) who will let me know. He DOES have all the answers.

Does he have the answer as to why the CVT gearbox on my Rover 45 wont change gear and often just drops back to 1st when it has changed?

It is realy annoying now and no one seems to have the answer.

I will ask, but he's not in until Monday.

Thanks, I am in no rush, the car is going nowhere at the moment.

have you tried the rover forums they may help you, to me it sounds like a censor away or a fluid change is required along with the internal filter

Already tried all those skippy. I have also tried a new step motor. eusasmiles.zip

I know it's the wrong section, but I'm looking for a quick answer.

What is a dual mass flywheel, and what does it do? Does an Auto have this set up?

I'm still trying to track down the horrible vibration that I’m getting in low revs from the cab.

Internet searches seem to reveal the source of this is either the above DMF, or (as I suspect) the crankshaft pulley where the noise seems to be emanating from.
A ratchet system on the alternator has also been suggested.

I had the driving shaft checked, it was ok.

Ta.

Here is an animation of how a Dual Mass Flywheel works, as previously posted on TDO by Mr Saltmarket.

Dual Mass Flywheel

This video does not start automatically; you need to touch the circle on the video running bar forward a little to start the video.

Hope this helps, but your autobox may not have one of these fitted.

I will ring my mate Nigel (an autobox mega-expert) who will let me know. He DOES have all the answers.

Thanks for all the answers.

It was the 'clutch' on the alternator, the rumbling noise at low revs has now gone . . . but . . . the refurb alternator they fitted is sheeite and clicks at higher speeds, so it's going back.

FFS.

Got some good news tonight for all you ford owners and possibly other makes, apparently on the auto trader site there is a supplier of a full solid flywheel kit for around £300

Euro car parts do solid flywheel conversions for many cars.
