Banned driver was behind wheel of taxi on Burnley Football Club to Clitheroe fare

A 37-YEAR-OLD man found driving a private hire taxi in the early hours of the morning was a disqualified driver. Blackburn magistrates heard Haroon Mohammed Bashir admitted to police he had just dropped four girls off in Clitheroe having picked them up at Burnley Football Club.

He told police he had left his taxi badge at home and couldn't remember the number. But Miss Clare Knight (defending) said while the vehicle he was driving could be used as a taxi, he was not using it as a taxi.

Bashir, of Lindsay Street, Burnley Wood, Burnley, admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance and obstructing a police officer. He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Miss Catherine Allan (prosecuting) said the private hire car driven by Bashir was stopped at 12-15 am. Bashir gave false details before being questioned about his taxi badge. When the officers said they were going to arrest him Bashir ran off, but was detained after a chase.

When he gave his correct details it emerged he was banned from driving. Miss Allan said Bashir had numerous convictions for disqualified driving. Miss Knight said that when he was stopped Bashir simply panicked.

Fills you with pride knowing one of your law abiding citizens puts his fellow countrymen at risk.

Might have a duplicate licence which he carries around with him or he might be running on someone else's badge who looks like him. With the technology they've got in the Police cars nowdays they can find out within seconds if you are a disquall, have no insurance, MOT etc etc.

There's no hiding from the law now.

Nah, he kept his original licence as reported in the article

When asked to return his badge to the city council, Ul Haq claimed he had lost it.
