Drunk pensioner smashed up taxi

A DISABLED pensioner racially abused a taxi driver and then smashed up his cab after he had too much to drink.
Kevan O'Mally, 72, had been getting drunk at the Red Cow pub in Lenton and was returning to the nursing home where he lives.
He was pleasant to the driver during the trip, and spoke to him about weather, but became aggressive when the driver tried to help him get out of the taxi.
O'Mally swore and shouted "Get away from me," using a racial insult.
He then threatened to stamp on the driver's groin.
The taxi driver was shocked by the pensioner's behaviour and tried to use the radio in his taxi to ask for help.
O'Mally then banged on the door of the vehicle, causing £408 of damage. He then ransacked the inside of the car.
David Miles, prosecuting, said: "He grabs hold of the receiver and pulls it out of the dashboard.
"He continues to shout at the driver until police officers arrive. The police officers are met with similar abuse from the defendant."
O'Mally, who lives in Grove Avenue, Radford, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated criminal damage at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.
He was ordered to pay £450 compensation to the taxi driver, which will de deducted from his pension credit.
When eventually arrested and interviewed O'Mally said he had got very drunk and couldn't remember what had happened. He said he could not recall making any racial comments.
Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard he also caused £250 worth of damage to the radio handset.
O'Mally had also been convicted of racially aggravated harassment after an incident in August 2009.
In mitigation, the court heard he is disabled and has a number of ailments, including a condition which affects his memory.
His family live in Northampton and London, and O'Mally was said to become bored from time to time and visited the pub.
He expressed remorse for his behaviour and said it was caused by alcohol.
He has not had an alcoholic drink since the incident with the taxi, which happened on January 22.
