Oh gary ,

Try sticking to the point.

Taxis (and phc) have doors, so it is unlikely passengers will fall or jump off a moving vehicle. Rickshaws dont.

These guys are not going to behave in a proper manner, as the scarier the ride the more money they can get from their drunk passengers.

You must have seen the passengers yourself, the more dangerous the ride the more they like it.

Ive had one guy try...luckily the Kiddie locks thwarted him.
me to but once i got past 30 mph with him hanging out the open door, i think he thought twice about not paying.

never let a live one go

Oh Frank, I honestly can't say I have witnessed the dangerous riding of a rickshaw with passengers on board. If these trike's are as unsafe as you claim, then perhaps you can provide us with the data to back it up. So far, all we have to go on is two freak accidents in 6 years. One girl whose scarf got caught in the wheel, and a drunken squaddie falls on his head, hardly an overwhelming spate of accidents, now is it?

I'm sure you have, but I can't say I've witnessed the same. I have seen buses, taxis and Phc being driven recklessly throughout the city, especially on the Corstorphine and Calder roads.

The point is, if pedal rickshaws are so dangerous, there should be copious amounts of data to back this up. All I've seen so far is the hysterical rantings of Frank, on how unsafe rickshaws are, but no proof that this is in fact the case.

That, I think would be proof that some of the drivers are idiots.
Maybe someone needs to be having a look at just who's riding these things.
Used sensibly, the machines should be relatively safe.

I was on holiday in Key West Florida, and I used rickshaws on a number of occasions. The guy had a stopwatch attached to his belt and charged by the minute. Better than sweating your as* off in the midday Sun, but not the cheapest form of transport I've used.

Gary,

You need to get out a night instead of daytime and then you will see what everybody else does.

And what are you on about "provide data"?. I dont need data to confirm what I can see with my own eyes.

People are just telling you what they see. rickshaws ARE being driven in a dangerous manner, and so often I no longer bat an eyelid.

It may or may not be relevant in this case, but it is true.

Why not set up a video cam in the front and film them then hand it into the council or better still the police

Great idea Mr Skippy41!!!

And I bet the rickshaw peddler won't see it, but in the unlikely event that he did, he wouldn't know what it was would he??

So what we have is, hysterical opinions and allegations with no hard evidence in support of your claims whatsoever.

These rickshaws are in use in Cities all over the world. You would have thought any data of people killed and injured as a consequence of being passengers in these death-traps wouldn't be too hard to find.

Over to you Frank.

Oh gary,

Again you just have to take the opposite view to everyone else, just for the sake of it.

If you cant come out at night then have a look on youtube. There have been plenty of phone clips taken by passengers of their EXCITING Edinburgh rickshaw journeys in the past, so I am sure you will find some today.

There are crash tests carried out by the crash test people on those vehicles, as funded by the LTDA in London and available from the LTDA on DVD.

The tests were backed up with hard data.

Here you go gary.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZMVUO2SSFg

Note the girl on the traffic island, frozen to the spot as racing rickshaws
pass her on BOTH sides.

There are plenty more.

I'm sure there is CC, but as you know, safety is relative.

Down in the big smoke, Boris Johnston is setting up Bike Hire Scheme in London City Centre. Bicycles might not be as safe as taxis or even rickshaws, for that matter, but death-traps, I think not.

What says you CC, should we tell Boris, to ban bikes?
:)
