There is an interesting forum link below, regarding the Dublin Taxi situation since de restriction. I reccomend it to all as there are some interesting observations which could be translated to this side of the Irish sea.

I would hope the situation would have improved in the last 3 years.

Yes that is quite true but it is interesting to see the comments of the general public and their observations of the Taxi game especially towards the type of vehicles that are being licensed and the availability of these vehicles since deregulation.

Best wishes

I think the usual extremes are represented - those who think drivers are making a fortune, and those who think they are making nothing, whereas the truth is probably somewhere inbetween.

Mind you, there are drivers making a fortune, and some making next-to-nothing, so maybe the public aren't as daft as we think :)

I liked the bit about why the Golf was unsuitable - the reply was that this was because it was a hatch and thus didn't have the bootspace.

But as far as I'm aware most hatches have a similar/identical bootspace to the saloon derivative, and indeed since you can easily lift the parcel shelf the hatchback is usually far better bootspace wise.

But generally, some of the cars mentioned are simply too small for taxis - I doubt if many UK LAs would license them, never mind a capital city!
