and nobody should have to wait for a PH because they require a saloon because they are easier to access and more comfortable for them to travel in because there will never be a saloon available on a rank due to the over zealous LA.

What you're forgetting is PH isn't a public service vehicle it is as said a private hire

So what you are saying then it is ok for PH and saloon H/C to not have wheelchair access (discriminatory!!) and that all wav's are terribly uncomfortable.... what a load of B*****Ks!!

I'm not saying that all wav's are terribly uncomfortable nor am I saying that it is ok to discriminate. I'm saying there should be a variety available not just vehicles for those in wheelchairs. Do you think that the only people to be discriminated against are those in wheelchairs. I have had plenty of customers in wheelchairs in my vehicle and it's what they prefer it's just a shame they can't flag one down or get one at a rank. It's also a shame that ambulantly disabled can't get saloon vehicles at a rank, but, who cares if they're discriminated against

The pros and cons are irrelavant, that's the way it is at present.

Me, I'm all for 100% compulsory taxi WAVs, and 100% PH saloons.

Give punters a choice.

I would agree with that, but it's unlikely to happen while the saloon H/C fraternity generally have it their way and call the shots. My personal opinion is that all saloon H/C's should be brought up to the same standards as wav's on their next purchase. This would give a complete and level playing field to the Hackney trade, thin out the numbers of over saturated LA's and would probably get rid of most of the riff raff within the Hackney trade. As for PH they are here to stay so some will provide wavs some won't so the public will still have plenty of choice..... as there will be plenty of ex saloon H/C's joining their ranks..... :-|

The more up to date Hackney spec wavs are just as easily accessible by anyone regardless of the amount of disability and just as comfortable if not more than the majority of saloon H/C's about these days with far more room to boot! I know many of the saloon H/C fraternity tell their punters that we charge more which we know is happening as so many punters ask us if we charge more because we are bigger in size!! So desperate these riff raff are!! So the excuses are wearing very very thin as far as the saloon H/C trade make out.....

There is obviously a lot of friction where you are within the HC trade. I don't agree with all you say, but, I do see why you say it. At the end of the day some people cannot access WAV's without assistance that they don't want to have to have.

Anyway back to the subject of this thread and that is to say I don't think PH should contribute to the funding of marshals on HC ranks anymore than I think PH should contribute to a SUD :D

Toots you know as well as me there are also people that have difficulty getting into a saloon without assistance that have problems getting into any car whether wav or not. The real rason is there is this mind set that some people won't or can't get in as they aren't able to without even trying and forever being told we are more expensive..... :? :x
It's quite strange as I have met these people that say they can't get into a wav so walk past and get into a saloon, even when there is one available at the end of the rank. Either these punters are two faced or being misled or both......
When its tipping down with rain and there is only a wav available they are suddenly able to get in, which I think is rather strange...... Even stranger is "Ooooh there is a lot more room in here and it was easier than I thought, and cheaper" or "Do I need a big one like this just for me?" I think there is a lot of mislesding which says a lot about what the saloon H/C fraternity are doing to undermine us. Like I said there arguements have little depth....
So now punters male or female are allowed to discriminate against wav owners without the slightest bit of concern for their own discrimination towards my vehicle and me and all other wav owners. As I have said until it becomes a level playing field there will always be contention in the H/C trade.
As for PH it makes no difference as the choice is already made by phone which is fair enough.

There will always be people who say one thing but then do another. There are also people who will wait for a saloon because they can't access the WAV without assistance that they don't want. There are also people who need assistance to get into either vehicle, they, I am sure are more than used to having to have assistance. I'm also sure that if there comes a time when my mother needs assistance to get into saloons as well WAV's she'll stop being so fussy

With regard to WAV's being more expensive than saloons, that is definitely the case here because we only have WAV's as HC's here and they are more expensive than PH. It's a never ending debate as to which is the better vehicle.

Only the same as they are able to discriminate between the likes of Netto and M & S, it's down to customer choice.

Just like I get when people compliment my vehicle because of it's comfort, it's dash display, it's smooth ride and of course it's driver

   Sorry I couldn't resist

I still don't think PH should have to pay towards marshals for ranks :D

So no PH 8 seater minibuses, but many LAs dont allow extra tarrif for +5 seats, so whose gonna run them at basic rate (andwhen most 8 seaters are not WAVs...)

can you get 8 passengers with long haul luggage in a "WAV/Lti" and guarantee comfortable travel for 150 miles?....(with no trailer)
