With this election coming up why not lobby any potential candidate to get them to impose a limit on PH in Scotland

Gary,

Personally, I bought my plate but it has already been paid off. I am not too concerned about the plate value as it has already paid for itself.

I am more concerned about the loss of full time drivers.
I could make more into the future by renting out the dayshift {I do nights} at a reasonable price over a number of years than I would by cashing in the plate.

I am looking to make some money by renting out the dayshift, but it does not mean I have to be unfair.

There are too many people that think the plate value is the be all and end all, and if they look more carefully at the figures it is not.

The best way for things to work, is for owners to drive themselves and rent out the opposite shift.
If I lose my driver I will have to work longer hours, but those who have more than one plate will be screwed if motors are sitting outside their house with no one to drive them.

Don't get me wrong I want to make money, but I am taking a long term view.

See, this is the problem...you all think you're plate has a value but it ain't !!! The plate belongs to the respective LA and, if they choose to implement the law fully, yer all fecked !!!
When are you gonna stop talking revenue and start talking the future of thr Trade ???

POUNDS SHILLINSS AND PENCE ain't what it's all about !!!

Whether you are a driver or owner, you need revenue.
Otherwise there is no point in doing it.
But as I said the plate value bit is overblown.

Right on.

Problem is that the trade doesn't present a united face to the customer. Whoie sections are ignored. No opinions are sought, no report back from council meetings and there's no democratic representation to reflect opinion.

What we need is a properly funded body, paid for by every interest to promote the trade. This could be achieved by a levy made on licence fees and paid back to the body. With full democratic represntation, every payee would be given an individual secret ballot paper, independent of company influence we could build a trade association that could promote us.

We desperately need something because those are exercising the undemocratic representation we have now are doing a shecht job. The status quo is down to them and them alone. I rest my case.

At this point expect to start hearing that the knowledge is too hard and should be made easier or dropped altogether. Watch this space.
Anything to put bums on driver seats.

I am sure that will happen,
But if you can only make money in a small part of the year, then no-one in their right mind will work permenantly full time.

It's gonna be owners and short term part timers only, and sooner than most people think.
