Advertisement in the Evening News on Thursday 6th May, by ECPH - Edinburgh's discounting taxi service :wink:


Due to expansion
PHC drivers / owner
drivers required.

Applicants must hold UK
driving licence. Edinburgh
City Council PHC licence
holders preferred, however
assistance available for
those without.

A clue.

The key word is expansion.


The licence that is denied hackney drivers is available to PHC drivers.

And they're using them to take our work from us.

And we're letting them do it unopposed.

All nicely delivered by vested interests protecting THEIR status quo.

BTW While ECPH are investing in discounts to take our work from us, erstwhile taxi guru and protector of the status quo, George "the Dodester Aird" - reported as "Managing Director"(?) of City Cabs is reported in the same issue of the News promoting the company's sponsorship of two golf carts in Duddingston Golf Club which have been liveried to look like black taxis, resplendent with taxi hire signs.

While ECPH is discounting his company out of the market, the Dodester is [edited by admin] demonstrating diminishing returns with these diminshed "taxi" vehicles.

You couldn't make this up.

Anyone know which members of City Cabs committee are members of Duddingston Golf Club which would serve to explain this company's curious largesse at a time when members are hard pressed to meet their extraordinary circuit fees?

Word on the grapevine is that ECPH are pashing themselves :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Talking about sponsoring ECPH director was on Real Radio and he pledged £500 to CHAS in the East-West footie match.

Not a vested interest in sight. Except maybe good advertising for his company.

Have to say I pointed him the way.

As they build respectbility the commercial danger for our trade grows.

And, watch this space, when taxis join their fleet it'll be game over.

We could all end up working for these guys ....

A company wanting to put more cars onto their radio system does not imply that they have enough work to do that.

More cars but less work per car is fine for the radio company, just as long as the radio dues keep coming in.

I think it is only yourself, jimmy boy, that thinks "we could all end up working for them". They are your friends after all.

jimmy, do they pay you to do publicity for them or do you do it out of fear?

We now have 60'000 desperate Minicabs in London compared to 25'000 licensed taxi drivers, we have no cap on Taxis, or taxi driver numbers.

The masses will always opt for the easiest option, why bother taking the time and effort to become a taxi driver when you can fill in a form and start driving a Minicab within a few weeks.

It's easy, just tout the work, and you're off.

I hear Edinburgh is much the same after dark.

You right GBC, every time iv a pick up booked I could make a fortune but I have to turn punters away, I overheard one woman say look a proper taxi lets see if he is free :D

I take it your one of them that falls for this kind of Marketing sh-te, as an ex salesman i'm never going to advertise the fact i'm losing salesman, i'm alway's going to to say "due to increase leads and business"
The fact is we the Taxi trade are working through a recession and any intellegent guy would agree that if we the Taxi trade are finding it hard then the PHC are finding it Quadrupily harder.

Once a phany Taylor alway's a Phany :wink:

It must be different there than here. It's so bad for the taxi trade here that they are on the PH systems to make ends meet. Yes we are working through a recession but that recession is no harder for PH as it is for HC's
