We are lucky that we don't have any here as they have to pass a fairly stiff knowledge test to get their licence. Licensing here have made it as hard as is possibly fare under the limitations that they have.... I'm considered a part timer now!! I agree you have to be adaptable and this is what I do.... Good luck for the future and stick it out as I will

you're in southampton or winchester then i take it?

Winchester...... Very effluent if you know what I mean!!

1) Over 60% of drivers are earning between £100-£500 gross per week from taxi driving
2) 98% of drivers stated that they are earning the same as the same period last year
3) 44% of drivers said they are behind with mortgage or rent payments
4) 92% of drivers said they have debts
5) 90% of drivers said their health had suffered as a result of driving work
6) 75% of drivers are on average working between 50-100 hours per week
7) 64% of drivers are driving between 20-50,000 miles per year in order to break even

8. 100% of drivers understate their earnings and overstate their expenses. :-# :-#

Capping licences in an area like this is too little too late..... The real reason is there has been an Asian Invasion into deregulated LA's, including all the EU immigration on top, which has resulted in the trade nationwide being over saturated and brought to the state it is now suffering...... That is the real truth, but nobody is saying or afraid to say that this is the real problem!! It's not a racist thing, it is just the reality.
If they are earning what they say they are, then you can bet one's life they are subsidising that with tax credits and whatever else they can fiddle!!
If not, they they will not survive...... period! Get out and stay out, that is my opinion, go and stack shelves in Sainsbury's or something, but dont drip about the situation they are in, after all it is of their own making!!  :-|

Yes, I hear you have suffered the Asian Invasion to, so I know where you are coming from!! Most of the Asian drivers come from Southampton as it was too difficult to get a licence there...... they drive up and down everyday, arrive about 1 or 2pm and work round to the early hours, are as miserable as hell, complain about the lack of work and the over saturation of taxis, which they caused in the first place!! Ironic isn't it!!  :-|
Some of the less insular ones that do chat to us say the council is to blame, as well as letting in too many yet do nothing about it!! I approached them all the year before last to try and get something together and join a union, but was met with apathy and basically ignorance about the situation the trade is in, mind you the same can be said about the "indigenous" drivers to..... so we have a "no win" situation which is compounded by absolute apathy and indifference.
They all complain about the Council LA, but don't realise that their hands are tied by government legislation. The only thing they could do was to tighten up on everything which has worked to bring it down to a trickle advising any newcomers that they will find it very tough to make a living  :-|

As usual you take it that we don't have standards?..... There is deep resentment not racism as you think this is, I'm talking of the reality that the trade has suffered here through the flood gates opening..... The same happened in Southampton and many other places.
I don't know what the situation in Hastings is, but the standards in this area have tightened considerably, but too late. We told the Council this would happen, but it fell upon deaf ears, until complaints came flooding in about Asian drivers not knowing where they were going, dangerous driving, overcharging, being rude and insulting, not taking wheelchair bound customers, sexual assault and unable to understand English.... Need I go on?
Thankfully things quietened down as many of the offenders licences were revoked or suspended, but that only led to more taking their places.....
More tightening came in by making the knowledge test more in line with what experienced drivers knew, a driving test, vehicle standards and so forth.....
What has happened is that all those trying for H/C licences have now gone PH which now number 236. Licensing don't like it but do not wish to be quoted as their hands are tied.... One admits that we should only have 60 H/C, that being 1 vehicle per 1000 population, we have 129 !!
So please don't assume that I'm a racist, but I am a realist who is not afraid to speak his mind...... You?

Maybe Hasting hasn't suffered the Asian Invasion yet? :-|

You said that Asians drivers are coming to your manor due to them not being able to get licensed in Southampton, not me.

I suggest you get your council to improve their standards to those found in Southampton.

The fact that Southampton might delimit soon, IMO via the Equalities Act, could mean some of those that currently work in your manor may go back.

Who knows?

The problem, as far as I'm aware, is bigger in Southampton. Half the reason they came to Winchester.... :-|
We now call it the oil slick  8) I doubt they will move back to Southampton, after getting as they think, established here...... I hope you are right  :-|

TBH with your bigoted comments over a number of threads I hope they stay, cause you to go bankrupt and you leave the trade.

I think that was me that said drivers were coming to our area because they couldn't get licensed in southampton. I think our standards were quite low, rumour has it that all non english drivers that already had a badge were given the answars through an interprerter on the knowledge test when it came into force a few years ago, making the whole point of the test a joke! the only reason they were already badged here was because there was no knowledge test & they could learn the area while they were earning, now they've gained that knowlege, the majority of those drivers have gone to work in southampton or winchester.

Well then that needs to be reported to the licensing officers.

One of my big hates is/are cab drivers that sit around all day moaning about this and that yet do f*** all about it.
