My ex wife drives a minibus for the county council under the MiDAS system. She has confirmed that it was a case of just turning up for the course. Apart from the councils own vehicles, there are very few around here with any type of PCV disc in the window.

I thought the "minibus" rules for drivers only allowed "volunteer" driving to be D1 101, if ANY money changed hands (fares, fuel, wages, etc) then the driver needed a D1 minibus test/pass and licence

if these groups ask for any monies off passengers in thier minibuses the law is being broken

better ask the councillor on the Melton group board for some explanation

Id hazard a guess that LCC has a policy of subsidising these groups across the county, i found the charnwood group, melton has 1, if they all start doing 90,000 passenger miles a year...............

how did the melton group (unplated/unbadged) gain access to the tenders?

It would come under VOSA's sphere of influence...but if its anything like up here then anyone can drive a Minibus for reward and get away with it..no one ever, ever seems to check up on them..and for sure the drivers will not be properly insured to drive A Coif compliant operator licenced minibus for reward or not, unless they have a full D1 entitlement...

And By reward im not talking about whether the Actual Driver gets paid personally by the owner in Cash or in Chicken giblets...its about the owners making a profit, which is not the same as an owner driver running their own car for 40PPM.

they are county funded and backed, so your stuffed, cos county councils never, ever, do anything wrong

Bus and minibus Hire

Bus and minibus hire for any occasion seven days a week

Leicestershire County Council has its own fleet of high quality buses and minibuses available for hire to schools, colleges, community and voluntary groups for day or evening hire and extended trips. We can accommodate regular group trips (swimming and sports trips, evening classes and the like) or weekend and longer activity trips (camping trips, school tours and so on).
Please note that due to licensing restrictions we cannot offer our services to groups other than those based around educational, community or voluntary services (if in doubt give us a ring).

To me this doesn't sound like a voluntary transport service but more like one of those "transport clubs" for members only. Isn't that how the pink ladies run? I remember seeing a web site for a limo company "operating" this way a few years ago.

The pink ladies were prosecuted in court last month and there operation was I believe found to be illegal.

CC
Pink Ladies still out and about at Manchester airport T2 this morning in their renault van plate-less!. I thought, they were slapped down for this?

What you don't realiase is that these so called volunteers get paid from leaving their home to returning to their home .We taxi drivers only get paid while the customer is in the vehicle. In Durham all social services work is handled by one of these companies that has over 120 drivers on their books.
With only overflow work given to genuine taxis .So vulnerable children are being ferried around by these pirates , wait until something happens and watch the S*** hit the fan. But like all the other cases the council will deny all responsibility.

Pretty certain most do realise they get paid from home, and also pretty sure this is a big f*** off scam that is doing a large amount of damage to the taxi/PH trade.
