A MARRIED taxi driver has been jailed for ten years after he took part in a vicious gang rape.

Nizar Baccar, 30, from Ifield, was one of three men who sexually assaulted and raped a 25-year-old Crawley woman after a night out in Bar Med in 2008.

Last Friday the married dad, of Climping Road, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment along with his co-defendant, Anouar Ben-Rejab, 36, from Maidenhead, for the "dreadful" attack.

Croydon Crown Court heard the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been drinking in town with friends on October 25, 2008 and had agreed to have sex with Ben-Rejab after meeting him and Baccar in the town centre bar.

Once at a nearby flat in Maidenbower, a third man joined the group and the three sexually assaulted and raped the girl, despite her protests to stop.

Ben-Rejab sat on her chest and forced her to perform a sex act on him while the other two men raped and sexually assaulted her.

The third suspect, Ahmed Farjallah, is wanted by police after he jumped bail and fled to Tunisia before he could be charged.

Giving evidence, the tearful victim said: "Somebody grabbed my legs and pulled me down to the edge of the bed.

"I tried to kick whoever had my legs but he grabbed my ankles. I kept saying 'No'."

Heathrow Airport security officer Ben-Rejab was convicted on two counts of rape and Baccar on one count.

Both were convicted of assault by penetration and Ben-Rejab was also found guilty of sexual assault.

Judge Warwick McKinnon sentenced the men to ten years each and said: "This dreadful incident has had a devastating impact on her life.

"Three men were involved in the gang rape of a woman who trusted you in going back to the flat.

"This was a joint enterprise by all three."

Speaking after the verdict, Detective Sergeant Allie Hughes, of Crawley CID, said: "The victim has shown great courage and bravery during the last 18 months.

"The guilty verdicts and the sentences passed will now allow her to move onto the next chapter of her life."

three good old british names

why was bail granted in a rape case?

on 1 point, a UK citizen prosecuted for football hooliganism by a kangaroo portugese court, with no translator, etc, has just been extradited to serve his sentence, how come that works but so many asylum seekers CANT be kicked out the country?

I suspect he was bailed by the police cos they didn't, at that time, have DNA evidence.
