Apparently they do the same here although I don't know about the interviews with operator companies tho. If there was such an interview it would probably go along the lines of 'here's your set with instructions, bye'

Why is it just Taxi driver training they're plugging...why not Double Glazing sales, Insurance sales, Kirby Cleaner sales, McDonalds etc...all have vacancies because of rapid staff turnover,..is it because Taxi driving is seen as the lowest rung on the Career ladder of life???

I think you will find that the other occupations you mention do actually involve an interview, unlike taxi drivers or ph. There is no requirement to actually have work available for all these drivers they just need to get them off the dole :-|

Its the same in Dundee, another 350 people made redundant from dc thomson's and you can bet some will enter the taxi trade. They will use some of their redundancy money to by a taxis. This has happened allot over the last few years with companies closing. The slice of pie in Dundee is getting smaller and smaller.I do not blame people for wanting to earn a living but the council should realize that there is not enough work to go round. The words over provision spring to mind and no unmet demand.

We supposedly live in a free market. If there are already 10 estate agents in a town there is nothing to stop another opening if they think they can do it better than the rest. The same should be applied to any other business. Why should taxis be any different?

There is legislation out there to protect the taxi trade from this kind of scenario. The council can say there is no unmet demand and save these people from wasting their redundancy money. Also some of the people getting badges are being forced by the brew to take up taxing.

If I'd woke up with a fuzzy head I'd think you was talking about the Dept of Environmet or the Duke of Edinburgh awards with that explanation    :D

A new project is offering unemployed people in Northumberland a route into work by becoming taxi drivers.

Those who successfully complete a training programme are guaranteed an interview with a local taxi firm

But are they guaranteed an income ??

None of us are, and the already halved what we take home...will be quartered unless LA's get out the vicks then smell what's coming out of their mouths !! GEEZ...you'd think they'd even taste it eh ??

Sorry toots, I meant Employment. Another colloquialism for the DHSS up here is the Social. I would have said that, but you may have thought I was talking about a club.
