If they are caught driving while banned they will serve the remainding time of their ban "in jail" but will still be banned when they come out for a further 6 months.

Is that to hard?? :D

Excellent idea, now can you tell me where all these extra prison places are?

Redundant Navy ships then ship them out into the middle of the North Sea or the Atlantic Ocean.

And where exactly are we going to get the money from to build them?

Even these would require millions being spent on them first. Money that the country does not have.

What people don't realise is, when you've had a drink your body doesn't start to process the alcohol until 2 hours after your last drink so, if you've had 4 pints of Wife Beater, each pint is 3 units of alcohol so basically you've had 12 units of alcohol, your body processes 2 units of alcohol each hour.

Your last drink was at 10pm your body won't start to process that alcohol until 12 midnight, your body starts to process it at 2 units an hour, your body might be clear of alcohol at 6am, "I say might", everyone is different.

So, If I was a heavy drinking scotsman & went on the lash for 24 hours are you stating that my liver will not start to metabolise the alcohol until hour 26?
What is my liver doing for the first 24 hours, do it jus turn around and say ' oh hold on, you are still drinking, I think I will wait until you stop drinking before I go to work'?

Please provide a reference for you claim.

thanks eze

Nige's statement only applies to English lager louts apparently.
Hard drinking scotsmen metabolize alchohol at the same rate, since they are never sober. The wind whistling up their kilts helps to kick start the liver.
Deep fried mars bars and other high cholesterol foods also aid the process

My view is that lowering the drink-drive limit would create a situation that the limit would then be so low that people would never be certain that they were not over the limit, even after a little tipple.

Then avoid the little tipple.

Reducing alcohol limits would not reduce drink driving.

It will if those doing the drinking are banned from the driving.

You are assuming that once banned people will actually not drive whilst the ban is in place. Sadly this is not always the case and lets face it once you are banned, with the prisons full, what further punishment can they give you?

the law is too soft, cops who bag someone at the roadside then have to take em to a police station for a proper test, in that time the % can fall, also it seems that "just over" the limit may not get you charged.....go figure

also, any drink driver can say they have had a drink in the last 10 minutes to get breathing space for the % to fall

Anyone stupid enough to drive whilst disqualified, or drink drive whilst disqualified will go to prison more times than not.

The least will be a six months night-time curfew, or as is commonly known as 'prison in the community'.
