Yeh, yeh, yeh, pull the other one.

You know the Germans, nobody talked about them before the tournament started & that's how they like it. Creep up on the inside without anybody noticing them & before you know it they're in the semi-finals. Well, isn't that a surprise.

Of course Herr Jocken will make you believe that the Germans are not a good team & that is of course reverse psychology, because if Germany loose, then he'll say, I told you so & if they win he'll say that England couldn't beat a poor German team that aren't a patch on previous world beating German teams.

Either way Herr Jochen can't loose.

Then Kaiser Beckenbauer chips in & tells us that the England team is 'stupid' for not finishing top of our group & thereby creating an early encounter with the Germans.

It's all reverse psychology & the Germans are almost as good at that as they are at football.

Don't you believe it, they have a very good side & now the knock-out stages are here they will show their true colours.

Our only hope is to drop Lampard, bring in Crouch with Defoe up front & play Rooney in midfield immediately behind those two; a role he relished with Man U for a lot of last season & he dropped back countless times creating openings for others & eventually himself too. Last season he flourished with his distribution just behind the front line & created havoc from there.

From what I've seen you could argue that Don Capello is using the same tactic.

This morning Sky Sport News is reporting that Kaiser Beckenbauer is spouting off again.

This time he has said & is trying to convince the world that the England team is 'burnt out'.

FFS, he's has more mind games in his head than Sir Alex & Jose Mourinho put together!! They could take lessons from Der Kaiser.

Or as Mourinho once put it this way;
"And I think because of the passion of every English player and every English supporter, and every English journalist for the game, most of the game is played with passion, love for football and instinct, but in football you also have to think."

BTW, I've just looked up Beckenbauer in the babylon online translator.

If you split Der Kaiser's surname into two syllables you get becken & bauer.

The translation of becken comes up with;
noun. bowl, sink, wash basin, basin; (Anatomy) pelvis, structure made from a combination of several bones in the lower abdomen

But more interestingly bauer translates as;
noun. farmer, agriculturalist, one who raises plants or animals on a farm, peasant, rustic; rancher, employee of a ranch; churl, rude person, person from the country

And obviously Kaiser translates as;
noun. emperor, ruler, sovereign; German emperor; Austrian emperor; Caesar, Roman emperor

So make of that what you will, but personally I like the fact that I can now refer to Kaiser Beckenbauer as The 'rude rancher ruler'!

Help me out a bit with the translation please Herr Jochen!

Or is the online translator correct?

And here's that story;

World Cup 2010: Beckenbauer fears for 'burnt-out' England
Former World Cup winner takes another swipe at England
'A game like this should be a semi-final, not a last-16 game'

Brummie Cabbie says, 'Der Kaiser practising blowing his own trumpet'

Franz Beckenbauer has claimed England look 'burnt out' ahead of their World Cup last-16 clash with Germany following a gruelling Premier League season. England's failure to win Group C means they will meet Group D winners Germany in the first knockout phase match in Bloemfontein on Sunday afternoon, and Beckenbauer would rather have seen the two sides go head to head later in the competition.

"A game like this should be a semi-final, not a last-16 game," Beckenbauer told Germany's Bild newspaper. "Unfortunately, the English have slipped up a little by finishing second in their group."

However, Beckenbauer believes Germany are fresher than Fabio Capello's side and that this will work in their favour on Sunday. "The English look a little tired," he said. "There is a good reason for that: the Premier League players have got to play far more games than their Bundesliga colleagues, including two national cup competitions. Therefore, when it comes to a World Cup or a European Championship, they are burnt out.

"Our players, on the other hand, seem to be in a physically better condition. Of course we respect them, but we certainly don't fear them. England's first two appearances at the World Cup were paltry, but they improved against Slovenia."

Beckenbauer admitted it will not be an easy game for Germany, since he expects England to be particularly motivated, not only due to the age-old rivalry between the two nations. "What makes them dangerous is that their key players Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and John Terry sense that this could be the last chance in their career to win a World Cup," he added. "And after all, England have been waiting since 1966 for a title.

"Fabio Capello appears to have brought discipline to the troops. After they failed to qualify for Euro 2008, England hit rock bottom. Capello has brought in a new structure."

The stage is set for "another fantastic football battle" which Beckenbauer says is guaranteed when the two teams lock horns. "England against Germany – they were always the biggest, most unforgettable games in our history," he said. "Football fans can only look forward to this classic."

And FIFA have confirmed this morning that the England team will play in ALL RED again on Sunday against Germany.

Now that I like!

Well, we may all know or not know that Beckenbauer´s thing with England goes way back to Wembley `66, where he was one of the finalists. ((-hastily-) not to revive now a discussion about THE goal)
So, that´s why. Moreover we all know the press just loves when both teams play against and always there´s a media-battle before and after the game itself. "It´s Germ Warfare!" (The SUN) So let them have their fun, there´s not a lot to laugh about these days.
Anyway, yeah, the translation is true, puns in Germany (and, my, is "Beckes" one heck of a satire target) go in two directions, first, the medical one, as a "builder of pelvises" and second the craftsman version, as a "builder of sinks".
The Kaiser, emperor, he is called since´74 and, well, the guy was World-Champion as a player, as a "coach" and in diplomacy (it was probably because of his influence that the games went to Germany ´06), so the title definitely stuck to him.

A German view on English football
There are high hopes for the German team, their youngest in 76 years
No German team likes to play the Dutch. But England - that should be a fascinating feast of football
By Marcus Schuler, Bavarian Public Broadcasting, Munich

11:22 GMT, Friday, 25 June 2010 12:22 UK

I'm not allowed to attach a German flag to our car. That's my wife's decree.

Never mind that millions of German men have cars sporting nice flags of black, red and gold. My wife calls it nationalism. My wife does not understand football.

No, I'm not a nationalist. I love football, but only when it comes to the World Cup. I don't follow the Bundesliga at all, like many of my countrymen.

But during a World Cup we'll wave flags and wear silly wigs painted black, red and gold.

However, playing England is nobody's idea of fun. We all still remember that awful moment.

You know, the one with the Russian referee. Ball behind the line? Every German has seen this clip a million times.

That's why we're not keen to play England. By the way: Who is the referee on Sunday? Is he Russian? If yes, I'll need a forest of flags.

What I don't understand, though, are newspaper headlines like The Sun's "Get Ready for Germ Warfare".

We have nothing against the English. On the contrary: Lady Diana was our Queen of Hearts, too.

I see little difference between the drinking habits of German and British football hooligans.

Hackneyed stereotypes

And anyway, when I talk to English friends about football, they never ever use words like "Blitzkrieg" or "Fritz".

I have no idea why British media, especially the tabloids, use these hackneyed stereotypes. Don't they know better?

World War II is long over. I was born in 1971.

The first foreign language I learned in school was English. And through exchange programmes I met plenty of humorous and lovely English students that were pretty much like us (apart from the watery beer they liked).

I suspect that British journalists rely on these stereotypes because they lack creativity.

There's only one match pairing that's like a red rag to a bull for us: Germany - Netherlands.

That would bring up plenty of bad memories. Everybody remembers when Frank Rijkaard spat at Rudi Voeller during the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

No German team likes to play the Dutch.

Feast of football

But England - that should be a fascinating feast of football: A classic, 90 minutes of highly-emotional fair play - with one winning team at the end.

And this time it will be very exciting: Germany has one of the youngest teams in its footballing history.

The English have stars like Wayne Rooney - who doesn't score any more (hopefully). Oh, and there are our penalty shoot-out specialists.

Another opinion of a truly neutral party - the chef of our staff restaurant who is Swiss. His bet: Germany will win on Sunday. Why? "Your team is very young and is getting better with each game. And the English team isn't that good."

I disagree with him. Part of me hopes we lose against England.

After all, who wants to meet Argentina in the quarter final?

Wraps it up, pretty much. Except the bit about the Swiss being neutral. They´re not. They feel a bit like the Scots about the English, sometimes very much against, sometimes, and sometimes secretly, very much for the Germans. (That goes for the biggest population, the German-Swiss of course, the other are indeed neutral)
Anyway, why can´t I still not live on writing, still have to do this fecking job
PS: I am currently moving to the French part of Switzerland (Fribourg)

Extracts from bbc.co.uk - Saturday's World Cup round-up

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has rivalled Eric Cantona in the oddest football soundbite stakes with a beauty about maintaining the balance between attack and defence.

Ahead of his side's last-16 match with South Korea, he said: "There's a saying among coaches that football is like a short blanket: it covers your head or it covers your feet, and if it covers your head, your toes are in the air."

France striker Thierry Henry has hinted he feels karma may have had a role in his country's disastrous World Cup campaign.

Henry helped secure France's place in the tournament when his handball went unpunished and led to the goal that beat the Republic of Ireland in a play-off.

But after France finished bottom of their group in South Africa, with only one point from three games, Henry said: "They always say you get what you deserve."

Ghana bring World Cup fans home despite qualifying

Friday, 25 June 2010 14:41 UK

Some Ghanaians have asked how much money was spent on the fans

About 1,000 Ghanaian fans who were sent to South Africa by the government to cheer the national team have been sent home, despite the team qualifying to the next stage at the World Cup.

Fans were sent to cheer the Black Stars at the group stage of the tournament.

Some fans have already arrived home, while others are to fly back on the morning of 26 June - the day Ghana play the USA.

The Ghanaian government said the budget did not cover fans staying on.

However, many Ghanaians have demanded that the total amount spent on fans who were sent to South Africa be made public, reports the country's Joy Online website.

A statement signed by Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that the "government indicated that it had budgeted for 15 days and though the Black Stars have qualified for the next round it was imperative for the supporters to be brought back home since government wants to keep within its budget and maintain prudence."

It said the government would have to "incur extra cost" if the supporters were allowed to stay for a few more days.

The fans budget included visa fees, hotel accommodation, food, medical support, transportation and match tickets.

Some 430 fans have already arrived in Ghana and the final batch is expected to return by Saturday 26 June, hours before their team takes on the USA in the first knock-out round of the World Cup.

The Black Stars are the only African team to qualify from the group stages in the first World Cup to be held on the continent.

Mr Ablakwa's statement also promised that the government would be "accountable to the people of Ghana and assured that once the fans return and the final computations are made, the cost of the entire exercise will be made public".

He said the trip had been partly funded by corporate sponsorship and stressed the government "did not wholly look to the taxpayers' money to fund this exercise".

French insults of World Cup team seen through racial prism
Members of the largely black team have been called 'gang bosses' and 'hoodlums,' disrespectful of France — terms often used to slur residents of the country's minority and immigrant-filled ghettoes.

June 25, 2010

By Devorah Lauter, Los Angeles Times Reporting from Paris
Impostors. Arrogant. Money-hungry idiots.
The insults aimed at France's World Cup team have been venomous following its drama-plagued early elimination from the international tournament.

Passionate hand-wringing at the humiliating fall of the team that won the 1998 World Cup can be expected from dismayed French fans. But some worry that the tirades against the ethnically mixed team are being too often seen through a racial prism, even if that's not the intent.

Few dispute that "Les Bleus," as the team is known, gave a subpar performance at the World Cup, the lowlights including a celebrity striker getting sent home for swearing at his coach, and the team's response by refusing to practice.

But since then, the members of the largely black team have been compared to "gang bosses" and "hoodlums" and said to be disrespectful of France — terms often used to slur residents of the country's minority- and immigrant-filled suburban ghettoes. As a result, many say that such commentary sparks racial hatred.

Criticizing the situation in France's ghettoes is a delicate tap dance, because focusing on the criminal and other negative aspects plaguing those areas inevitably circles back to the people living in the largely immigrant and heavily Muslim areas.

So, intentions aside, the current attacks against the team can "encourage prejudice," and "liberate racist speech," said the general director of the advocacy group SOS Racism, Guillaume Ayne.

Politicians have fervently joined in the harangues, in particular questioning team members' disobedience, and the decision by some on the squad not to sing France's national anthem, "La Marseillaise."

On French radio, philosopher Alain Finkielkraut said the players represent the "spirit of the cité," a term used for ghettoized housing projects, which he said are "devouring" French society.

Problems afflicting the projects include high crime, poor education and a failure to integrate immigrant youths into French culture.

Les Bleus are "a terrible mirror" of French society, said Finkielkraut on Europe 1 radio.

"Nobody has said anything openly racist, yet," said sociologist Jacques Tarnero, who studies racism. However, the risk of tipping into xenophobia comes up when the French team is associated with the problems of the French ghettoes. It could confuse the public, he said.

It was well OK to have black players in the team when they won the World Cup in 1998, but now that the French team have exited the 2010 World Cup early, it's the fault of the black players in the team.

THE FRENCH!!! CHAMPION AR*EHOLES!!!

Mind you, it does grind with me when ANY National Anthem is played & player & officials from that country do not sing their own anthem.

IMO, EVERY team member & team official should sing their national anthem.

Ther is NO excuse!!

Be proud of the country you are representing.

And for those who will say, "What about Capello?"

Well it don't take that long to learn a country's national anthem!!!
