I am familiar with this type of forum layout and have no problems with the quote function elsewhere, just here.

ETA I just previewed and what you see is what happens, even if I just hit the 'quote' button on a post in order to reply. To my eyes, there seems to be nothing wrong with the code around the section I wanted to quote so I don't understand why it is not working.

Neither do I now, because the way it is written above should have shown up the quote in a seperate box.

The only thing I can think of is that the Forum page on your computer is set up differently than most of the rest of the members.

Or is it the York area?

And that's even stranger now, because I just pressed the quote button & it changed your gobbledygook message into quotes as it should be, as above.

It must be the way you have the Forum set up on your computer; you have pressed a button somewhere & turned something on or off on the Forum that you shouldn't have.

Indeed, and I think that was Frank's problem, but he seems to have sorted it now.

But I think it's also in each poster's profile, so it would need to be changed in there rather than doing it for each post.

Next lesson is that it's bad form to quote hundreds of words to add a handful.

In fact, I would say that if you quote any more than you actually write then that's too much.

Perhaps if the thinker had thunk a bit more he would have thought that not all drivers can raise the money to buy a plate.

Some can't even finance a second hand motor, never mind a plate, which would probably need a substantial amount of security, like equity on a house.

If they can find £200 a week which is what they claim they pay in rent, why can they not pay the same on a loan to a bank,?

Because the banks won't lend them the money in the first place.

It's raising the capital that's the problem, not making the repayments.

Many people pay rent on a house which exceeds the mortgage repayments, purely because they can't get a mortgage, which means a nice little earner for those who can.

Ditto a taxi plate.

I beg to differ.

I know hundreds of drivers who can find £200 a week, out of their takings, but I know the vast majority of them will never be able to finance a £20/30/40/50,000 plate.

Is that the case in York?

How old are the vehicles which have been presumably financed without plates?

The person who at this time chooses to call himself Caledonian Cabby stated 'It's raising the capital that's the problem, not making the repayments' so presumably if the cars are new theyve either bought them cash or put them on finance?
