I don't know why I'm bothering, but there's a world of difference between raising a loan for a plate and a vehicle.

For a start, the plates in question cost significantly more than even the most expensive vehicle.

And the bigger issue still is the nature of the asset that it's being secured against.

Ask a bank if they'll lend against a plate - no chance.

I think I'm the one wasting my time here, you really do show a complete ignorance.

Going by your thinking taxis and plats never ever get sold because people cant afford them or get finance.

Your as funny as f*ck you know that lol

Better still ask your mate skull if he got his 100K in cash or was it a bankers draft or similar.

In respect of Caledonian Cabbies post it dont matter; if the vehicle is worth £100 and the plate £10....according to him the driver will only get £100 from the bank?

I was asking cos it's stated that "the plates in question cost significantly more than even the most expensive vehicle". I suppose it's down to what you call expensive. Anyway for clarification I'd like to know how much the plates are and if that can't be answered the cost of the most expensive vehicle will do :D

I would have thought a person was going to a bank on the basis of buying a business, with maybe something called a business plan.......if the market was regulated the bank / bloke with a large hammer aimed at kneecaps could always re-posses a plate and be guarnateed a return......as could the person buying the business.

In dereg land you lose your cab, and of course home if you got one

These people are big on finance obviously.

As much as someone is willing & able to pay for one if they're that way inclined.

And from all accounts it's been somewhere between £40K & £80K in the last 10 years or so.

Mind you one or two have recently hit the jackpot by getting a free plate without the LA issuing any & that's a feat in itself!!

Generally speaking a plate has NO value, but the value attached to a plate is classed as goodwill.

In accounting, goodwill is an intangible asset, i.e. an asset that has no physical being.

Banks will not lend money to buy the goodwill portion of a business, unless a tangible asset is put up as collateral, which invariably means a charge on your house.

If some one doesn't want to buy a mop, the mop won't be sold irrespective of the price being asked for it!!

Okay, are you telling me people cannot get plate finance?

If thats the case then Caledonian Cabbie needs to wrie to the newspaper watchdog and complain about the story about Mr Cowie near Glasgow who Skull is apparently a little scared of, Jaspar isnt though, I think jaspar said he was a poof. :D

What has Caledonian Cabbie, Skull, Mr Cowie & Jasbar (aka Jasbar's Aggressive Spouting Brings About Rape) got to do with bank lending policy?
