Don't flag down taxis, women told
DETECTIVES in the Trafford area are advising women not to flag down taxis to take them home following two rapes in three months.

A 19-year-old woman was raped after getting a taxi in Hale in the early hours of October 31 and a 36-year-old woman was attacked after getting a cab in Altrincham on December 4.

Both women had been on nights out with friends and were getting taxis home on their own.

Officers investigating the offences believed they may be linked but are not ruling out the possibility of different offenders.

Police in Trafford are advising revellers to pre-book taxis and keep the number of a reliable taxi firm handy.

same thing again, the vehicle probably isnt licensed and neither will be the driver, but the trade gets in in the neck.

I suspect this article came from the MEN?

Obviously accuracy is not a strong point of some journalists who write for the Manchester Evening News but it's been like that for a very long time where Taxi, P/H and unlicensed vehicles are concerned. Trafford is not Manchester and the article should have reflected that fact.

The journalist should have also mentioned that Trafford Council only licence Black Cab type vehicles and these are the only vehicles that are legally licensed to ply for public hire.

Rape incidents always make sensational headlines for the Newspaper but its a sad day when "sensationalism is substituted for the truth".

Best Wishes

JD

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story
