You have to fast forward the video to the 36:40 mark.

It's from the Channel 5 Police Interceptors programme.

Essex police stopped a non licensed taxi/private hire car that is registered in Kent in the early hours of the morning, as the car stops there is a man in the passenger seat about to get out, but before he's got out he's trying to hand over some cash to the driver. They don't know each other as claimed by the driver and the driver has illegally picked up a punter to drop him home for cash. The tax on the car has just run out hours earlier so he's also untaxed.

The punishment was... a warning instead of a fine and 6 points and an extra fine for no tax.

No wonder there are so many illegal drivers driving around the country if they are all not prosecuted.

I might just nip down to London and do a few hours illegally down there and line my pockets with gold.

Would the passenger make a statement and come to court?

If not then the police can't make a case.

We get the same rubbish in Maidstone. The police simply dont see it as important enough to act.
