ABUSE OF POWER

http://taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtop ... &start=100

If you want to stop councils' abusing their powers. You need a network of individuals with a shared vision or consensus to protect their own interest. A skeletal organisation and a communications platform (TDO) – forum, private messaging, email, phone, text, etc. To coordinate collective decision making support and action for your particular cause.

Collectively, if we could help fund and support worthwhile legal actions against council's that abuse their powers. We could change the face of taxi driving for the better up and down the country.

A Council would be reluctant to take such a gung hoe attitude in the future.

What says you Sussex? How about a separate section on TDO, dedicated to mobilizing support and funding for just such a cause?

A, donate now with Pay Pal button, would ask taxi drivers up and down the country to get involved supporting their colleagues and to put their money where their mouths are.

I think this is doable.

I have concerns relating to the issue of money being transferred via anything to do with TDO, but there is merit in publishing contact details of those in officialdom that are abusing their power, so the good people of TDO (members and lurkers) can vent their spleens at them directly.

Maybe a section can be merged somewhere, and a new section created listing those councils/LOs and just about anyone that abuses their position by having a go at the trade can be pointed out.

I'm the one offering the support, with my hard earned cash.

This is about TDO, providing a facility through its forum. For its members to support taxi drivers that find themselves at the mercy of their council's abuse of power.

Who said anything about me looking for support? :?

I have been in court many times Stationtone, and I think I am better equipped than most to fight my own corner. It is not me who needs the support, but guys like you might, and I don't mean that in any derogatory sense.

I'm personally not sure I would financially support an area like Ashfield where, it appears, the 21 suspended drivers can't even get enough for a solicitor to keep them working.

But a mass blitz of idiot councillors is a good move. :D

I agree.....21 drivers £50 each? That should be enough to start with.

If they wont help themselves why should we?

A Pay Pal facility could be set up to put money straight into the clients account held by the legal firm representing their case. In short, any money handed over would be paid to and held on account by their lawyers. I'm not suggesting it would be quite as simple as that, but it's worth considering. I am sure there is a way around TDO, handling any cash directly.

You could poll the members, to decide by a majority, what case, if any, deserved their support. That way, everyone can participate in taking steps to protect their own livelihoods, by helping others fight for theirs.

All the details of the case could be discussed at length on TDO, strategy, tactics, etc.

It would certainly keep the lawyers on their toes. :-|

It's not that they won't help themselves. It's more like they are like rabbits caught in the headlights of a car. They find themselves totally overwhelmed. I've seen this time and time again up at the council, and in court.

A lot of people don't even deserve support but that won't help the next guy who does but can't find any. Sooner or later we all suffer as a consequence of sitting back and doing nothing.

As admirable as the idea is I believe that is what unions and trade reps are already paid to do. Having a cash pot available to drivers in difficulties would not encourage them to take a responsible attitude to their trade and ensure they join the trade groups currently available to them.

A cash pot would not simply become available. You could choose not to support, those, needing help, but that wouldn't stop anyone else giving theirs. You are entitled to your opinion, and that's the point.

You would simply vote no, but others might vote yes, and lend their support.

Some people even call it, Democracy.

This is not about you losing your driver and your pretendy plate value LongshanksED. Oh and you've every right to feel inadequate and insecure, and that's simply because you are. :-|
