Do people think Edinburgh should retain a cap or de-restrict taxi numbers? :D

I think a part of a progressive transport policy the number of taxis should be determined by means of a survey and should be driven by demand.

In that manner the investments of those incumbent into the trade are assusred and those entering the trade can be equally assured of a return on their investment.

I also think there should be an age limit of first license.

That aside, yes we should have a fare increase.

What am I thinking about, an increase in tariff must make a huge difference to driver takings, with all that disposable income washing around?

Perhaps toots, has it right, customers will use taxis more, out of sympathy because of increased running costs.

I take it GBC, CC and Chris the fish, agrees with the above, I know that toots, does.

We seem to have GBC, CC, Chris the fish, Grandad and who else want's to add their name to the growing list of absolute er*eholes?

A fecking tariff increase, you've got to be kidding

Don't blame drivers for fare increase

SINCE the taxi fares and tariff changes this month, there have been many complaints from customers using taxis. I would urge people to keep in mind that it is not the drivers who put the fares up, it is Cheshire West and Cheshire Council.

I had one female customer travelling from DB’s music bar to Saxons who complained bitterly about the fares and tariff. Even though I pointed out that it was not the drivers who are responsible for pricing she was quite rude and called drivers rip-offs.

People also need to remember that Tariff 2 is now from 11pm and not 11.30pm. This change was also brought in by the council.

If people want to rant and complain about taxi fares please take your objections to the right people, CWAC, and not the taxi drivers!

Thats a cop out really cos it was the drivers who asked the council for an increase - they don`t just do it off their own back do they !!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against a tariff increase, in principle, but fecking financial suicide is not on my agenda.

Did anyone consider the state of the economy when coming up with this brainchild?

We were never against an increase in tariff. However, if the public has, very little in the way of disposable income, and won't pay, while believing they are being shafted, there doesn't seem, to be much of a point.

I never said customers would use taxis more. I just said "customers have to realise that costs for the drivers have increased"

So you think that by subsidising the publics' trips they'll use taxis more, thus making it so that taxi drivers are not only shafted by the government, but, they are shafted by the public too who seem to think that taxis are a charity. Most customers still think taxi drivers actually get a wage from somebody ffs

In Manchester the drivers seldom ask for a fare increase. However the Taxi Owners apply every year, regardless of the state of the economy. Manchester has an historic agreement with the unions. Fare increase = A rise in the rents. All TOA members set rent at same rate regardless of the age or condition of vehicle.
