I've been in the trade for almost 21 years, and I have yet to see a tariff hike translate into a real increase in driver takings.

21 Years ago.....that takes me back, Yazz and the Plastic population and VAT at 15%, I know how to party or what!

That aside, my flagfall then was £0.90p.

I'm glad I dont have that now, I think I'd be looking at our cats, a bottle of daddies sauce, with a strange look in my eyes. Come October its (the flagfall) is going to be £2.50p, and we have an extra 187 plates to share our good fortune with.

Pro rata, your £0.90 flagfall 21 years ago, is probably the equivalent of £2.50 at today's date.

Do you want to know why an increase in tariff almost never works in real terms' toots?

Perhaps you could tell us? :-|

I think your biggest competitiors are buses and trains. I've heard the public transport in Edinburgh is excellent especially the buses which are really quite cheap

Ph, have grown from approximately 300 vehicles in 1999-2000 to around 1000 at today's date

You've got the same amount of private hire as we have here but you have over 100,000 more people in Edinburgh than we do and a tourist industry and a university and you're restricted, but, you say you're earning less pro rota now than you were 21 years ago. What's gone wrong :? I think the buses will take a fair bit away from the taxi trade especially if they are as effecient and as cheap as I've been told they are and also there is the possibility that your tariff hasn't kept up with the rate of inflation so you're bound to be earning less pro rota. I'm sure that there are lots of reasons why you are not earning as much now as you once were, but, look on the bright side if Edinburgh de-restrict you can look forward to earning more/less*?

Supposing I agree with you, (which I don't) would you care to explain how a hike in tariff, translates into more people using taxis and an increase in driver takings?

My advice to anyone who does not understand the phrase that Toots used, drop into your local French coffee shop and ask the very attractive very young lady for a translation like I did.

Now I have to find another coffee shop!

Thanks Toots.

I never said you said it, but you did give your support to an increase in tariff. Now perhaps you can give us a logical explanation as to how a hike in tariff, translates into more or the same amount of people using taxis and an overall increase in driver takings?

All I've ever experienced is seeing everyone working for less. With the tariff increases Edinburgh has had over the last 20 years, we should be earning more than double what we are now.

Oh and any more of that "lèche mon cul" and I'll tell your abusive Lover
:) poor little toots  :D

You should have just asked me I would have told you.

So why aren't you?

One of our busiest companies has the highest tariff so that would indicate that it's not just down to price, is it. Other than that I have nothing to say I just don't see a problem with an increase in the tariff :-|

So you don't know why you support tariff increases, but you do it anyway.

Ffs it says further up why I support an increase in the tariff, but, that wasn't what you asked me to do. You asked me "would you care to explain how a hike in tariff, translates into more people using taxis and an increase in driver takings?". To that request I say no I wouldn't like to :D
