COPS are hunting a taxi driver who smashed his cab through the front doors of a council HQ in a late-night ram raid.
The shock attack came days after a taxi firm - linked by police to organised crime - met local authority bosses in Glasgow in a bid to get more private-hire licences.
Last night a council insider said it was lucky no one was killed in the incident at the City Chambers.
The source added: "The front door was completely smashed in.
"It was lucky it was late at night and there were few people about - it could've been carnage."
Police raced to the scene just after 11pm on Sunday but the irate cabbie had already fled in his motor. The insider added: "No one seems to know why this guy targeted the Chambers."
Last Thursday a controversial cab firm met council chiefs to ask for 44 private-hire licences. Police want dozens of cabs run by the company taken off the roads. The taxi bosses' lawyers asked for talks to be adjourned to investigate several matters that arose.
The firm, who claim they're being victimised by cops, are also appealing a council decision to strip them of their operator's licence.
The local authority confirmed a car drove into the front of the building. Police said: "Inquiries are ongoing."
