Hear we go boy am i gona get some stick now.Well a true taxidriver is one that drives a true taxi.not a bread van not a saloon car but a true purpose made taxi ie currently a TX4.Now now Skippy stop fuming i can see the smoke from here.My very first true taxi was a p reg faiway driver auto one of the last made they went to r reg dicky bird sold it to me from LTI for
£19000.best cab i have ever owned apart from the rust yes made out of recicled tin cans me thinks, couldnt go through a car wash cause it would take your taxi sign off. Then I moved onto a metro mkIII auto proberly the best at the time no rust.Went to Birmingham to see the launch of the TXI, you got to hand it to them they got the shape right as close as they could to the original fairway, yep bought one.Now i have a TX4 AUTO facelift model just 4 weeks old ermm here we go Skippy GEARBOX ISSUES changes up to top gear at 35 mph horrible droaning noise.Kim from Lti is meeting me next week to see if i need a new box.Now lets get back to the opening statement,a true taxidriver drives a true taxi.It is reconised the world over it does the job with ease the doors open properly,it has a safety partition to protect you it turns in its own lenght etc etc.100,000 warranty or 3 years whichever is sooner.Okay the only gripe I have is that they have been making it since the 50s and still cant get it right, but there is no alternative several company's have tried to tap into the market but the all have massive faults and they are not taxis just trying to be taxis. So if you want to be a true taxidriver GET A TX4 AND BE DAMMED,stick with the Scoda Skippy and one day not to far away you will be seen driving a true taxi.

And that's why LTI have been losing sales by the 1,000 every year to other manufacturers for a decade or more now & are now Made in China.

Hackney proprietors are voting with their wallets.

And is my mate Dicky Bird still with LTI or has he been shipped to China too?

I see the lunatic element are still visiting here then.

What makes a good taxi driver ................. the vehicle he drives.

Inspired.

No wonder the trade is in such a $hit state.

My first Taxi was an FX4. I drove it out of Cross St Garage (when it was John Paton's) in January 1978. That cab was the best ever. Austin did get it right. The reg no was VVU 829S. I will never forget it, passed its test without any work being done for the first two years. I have driven many cabs since, but nothing could touch VVU.

Some may say that TX drivers are true cabbies.

Others may say that TX drivers are true mugs.

Never was the adage truer, "there's taxi drivers, and those who drive taxi's".

Guess which one I think dan may be?

Dan,,You moan quite rightly about the TX1 having rust problems, and now the TX4 with a gear box fault, and forgot to mention a couple of HUNDRED fires that occurred    , you then go on to say that after 60 years of making the sh!t heap that they still cannot get it right...............so what exactly are your mental problems about.
