I cannot reply directly to mr m's post above in case he accuses me of harrassement, but I would point out that at no stage did I open my door for a member of public who was asking for directions.

Five passengers. £2:60 initial hiring. £1:80 in extras, for five adult passengers= £4:40 must have been to the barbican then.

I accept all that.

My point is that if such a bye-law were proposed in today's time, I doubt it would be acceptable to the lawyers at the DfT.

Bearing in mind how LA's operate these days, I wonder how many actually bother informing the DFT of anything?

I take your point though.

If I don't practise my archery, or carry a bale of hay Imay have broken unrepealed law.

But it remains a point in law that Lincoln's byelaws remain until repealed by Parliament. And it is terrible shame that drivers break the byelaws and then paint themselves as the poor little me victim.

So if you answered a call to pick up a fare from 5 miles away, and when you got there the punter did not like the colour of yor car, that would be ok by you?

I think people should maybe consider why this byelaw was put in place.

I chose not to charge extras on this occasion.

I chose to leave my binoculars at home that day.

And in spite of that I still saw that sty of pink pigs flying!!!

certainly

5 mile from here (in any direction) is REALLY the middle of nowhere (and the hacks charge double), so they can either ring the next nearest car (5 more miles) or discuss my cars colour as we travel. as i cant have a WHITE saloon i wont be doing weddings, having BLACK does put off the OAPs (coffin dodgers) but i just point out they will need one soon anyway, get used to it, at least in mine they can see where they are going
