I thought that when they changed the layout at the front of the building it was only supposed to be the cabs that were using the forward travel rank that were allowed to go past the front of the building and drop off behind the rank.

I presumed that cabs like mine would have had their registrations removed from the list to make this happen.

But I have to admit that I have never tried to go through the barrier since then.

I'm curious now.

Well...The guy in the Parking booth seems to think its OK for PH and Hacks to drop off if registered....and certainly the the other guy that prowls by the polytunnel drop off zone just asked if i was only dropping off, so I guess it must be...but they make it hard to find anyone on the phone that you can ask confirmation from about it...its all hush hush.. :?

Looks like even the politicians have got the hump with the £1 drop off fee.

Aye....and if its a busy as it usually is at that drop off you might have to do the airport circuit again before you find a drop off space...then its 2 quid youve thrown in the hopper...

Just though you'd want to know unless you already do that those theiving b******s at Edinburgh Airport are set to introduce the Drop Off Fee at the end of this week on Friday 29th October>

What can we do about it?

As I see it you have a couple of options. Firstly you could just accept the fee and carry on with a smile.
Second you could pass the cost on to the passengers.
Third, there is usually a long stay car park where you can drop off and pick up for free, so you could use that and let the passengers take the airport shuttle bus to the terminal.
Fourth, There may be somewhere just before the barrier that you could drop off or pick up without going into the "zone".
Fifth, Just stop taking airport work.

surely we could start losing business if we have to pass on costs to the passengers. Then when the tram starts up we'll be completely scuppered.

I've got a mate who was a taxi driver at Belfast and they tried to dodge the fare by waiting on approach roads.

The other problem is even if you do enter the drop off zone area you only have 10 minutes waiting time and then you've got to pay again- you could end up getting charged over and over again!

Generally customers are not stupid. They realise that if there is a parking charge, they have to pay it. These charges were introduced at East Midlands earlier this year. £1.00 to drop off and £2.00 to pick up. I have had no problems at all with passing on these charges to the customer. lets face it, The customer is probably paying an arm and a leg for their holiday/business trip so an extra pound is not going to lose many jobs.

Whos going to want to hump all their Luggage and three screaming kids to the nearest stop to hop on the "Half a Tram system" at an as yet unknown price......that Tram system might be a real bonus to Edinburgh Hacks and PH..more so if there is fewer buses running because of it..

As for the drop off FEE...if it so bloody good why havent BAA intoduced it at Glasgow airport?

Its not even a good drop off area....God knows what it'll be like when the new bit opens...Nobody seems to have much Idea where it is or how it works.......Shower of BAA Control freaks with bugger all better to do than Bite the hand that feeds them. :x

Yeah it's going to be an absolute nightmare when the charges come in, I really doubt it's going to do anything to reduce congestion like they propose. I was reading about Belfast and the airport operator stood to make £2 million from the scheme..it's a bloody cheek! I've started up a facebook group in protest follow the link to join:

It has stopped congestion at East midlands Airport. I don't get any parking problems anymore. Similar at Birmingham for dropping off but I use the multi-storey for picking up.
