Perhaps he just doesn't want to get involved in the £2-50 to anywhere in Aylesbury PH price war!!

I don't have to worry about £2.50 or £3 any more because as from next monday I am driving a hack an if it goes all good my friend and brother are going to lend me some money to buy it the following sunday, just wish me luck my next week takings are good.

Please wait for a few month to find out whats happening with the equality bill you should be able to get a free plate

It wont be a few months, and they are already 100% WAV so it wont apply there.

my friend is good as ino his family very well an he is the one asking me to come in to the trade, I have made a deal with someone for 70k with a 56 plate e7 and no I can't go to the council as the plates are restricted and they won't issue any plates as ino a lot of people have tried it, at first I didn't want to goin to the trade but when my friend said he will loan me the money as are parents no each other verywell an I have nown him since I was a kid I agreed.

Call me Cynical or contrary...but if you can afford to splash out £70,000 on a Plate and Vehicle after 10 years PH work then it maybe paid better than you realised it did. Is it worth the risk of wrecking a profitable PH business for the expensively obtained Taxi Business you now aspire to?

Its a case of "The other mans grass is always greener"....that said, in your case maybe it is.

Tough shout.

Maybe you should wait a few months to find out which WAV you will be driving with the equality bill forcing you into one? Still, at least you should save a few thousand, not needing a turning circle?

£70,000 repaid over 5 years = £14,000/yr or £270/wk

I hope its worth it, plus you need a WAV

I'd say stick with what you know, unless you've really done your homework and know that it's definitely a good move. To be honest, from this thread I'd say you need to do some research before making any sort of commitment.

Also, I tend to never talk money with other drivers. I'm not interested what they claim to be earning. I'm only interested in my own takings. It's common in this trade for drivers to claim they're making a lot more than they actually are.

If you've been in the job ten years, then you must have an idea whether your local hack ranks are generally busy or overflowing. You must know at least a couple of hack drivers - have a word with them (you needn't mention even that you're thinking of getting a cab, just make general conversation).

£70,000 can NOT be entered into lightly.

Saying that, I see lads around here as soon as they get their redundancy cheque get straight on the phone to Cab Direct, buy a cab then come and sit on the back of an overflowing rank. They've never even so much as done a little bit of research. They've sure never noticed the ranks overflowing for the last six years. Mad.

or they go and rent an over-priced radio off a circuit and do as they are told and when to do it, watching the select few get "FTF" and do account work that only yields 80% of what the customer pays, thats not self-employment in my book

I've done a lot of research, Ive asked a couple of drivers my uncle has 1 he said he can get me a school contract an says morning work is abit slow 6am-12pm but after that its ok, yes the plate comes with a 56 plate peugeot e7, the guy I am buying it off is giving me a driver who will drive 6pm-4am 6 days a week so ill be doing the morning shift, what ever the driver makes its 50/50 my fuel an expenses, the company which the taxi is with is total hackney with 45 hackney vehicles, weekly rent £30. So I have now made a decision that I am doing the right thing buying it.

the only reason it is this less is because all 45 drivers are partners in the company and the rent pays for the office bills an operators wage that's it, the company is not owned by 1 person all plate owners are partners in the company.
