Not really sure it's currently achievable, as the law doesn't allow work to be shared between PH operators in different licensing areas.

If it was allowed the big bus/train/coach companies would have tried it.

You would have to have a seperate office for each town/district operated in

I think someone tried it a few years ago, I think it was called Intercar. It was run on a frrachise basis, I could be wrong, 99.9% of the time I am.

They could, but each job would need to be received in each separate area i.e. no national call centre, and each office wouldn't be able to transfer work to another.

surely the freephone number system (1 national number with a base getting the calls in thier own STD code area) would be legal...

It's where the booking is taken, be that phone, walk in, or that internet lark.

I suppose that you could have the one office and all drivers and vehicles could be plated in that area. The drivers could be anywhere at any given time such as Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham etc.

But how would you know which job suits which area unless the booking is taken by someone?

?

its 1 number nationwide

all (say) 0121 749 callers (castle brom) would go to (say) a castle brom base+licenced firm who pay for the call incoming

its old technology

if the call is innapropriate for any 1 base they can transfer the caller (without taking the booking themselves)

The davy liver group freephone does that but most of the offices are other firms operating in other towns plus the cabfind system which is national
