Speeding florist secures taxi licence Jan 6 2005

A CRIEFF florist has been granted a taxi driver’s licence despite having been caught speeding twice in less than a year.

Members of Perth and Kinross Council’s licensing committee heard at their meeting on Wednesday how self-employed Julia Johnstone was caught doing 45mph on the 30mph Orchill Road, Auchterarder, last February 4.

Chief Inspector Gavin Robertson of Tayside Police said Mrs Johnstone, of Burrell Street, was issued with a further fixed penalty when she was discovered driving at 43mph near Cumbernauld on August 20 – again in a 30mph zone.

She had a total of six penalty points endorsed on her riving licence.

The committee had previously warned her at a sitting last July that she would have to re-appear if she committed a second speeding offence within a year.

Mrs Johnstone (47) said that she had been driving for 29 years and was seeking a taxi driver’s licence to allow her to undertake “casual work”.

Members unanimously agreed to grant the applicant a licence for one year.

I also had two speeding fines last year,due to the camera vans.
Certainly my fault cannot complain,but this is the first and second speeding charges in the past 12 years.
Very easily done.
Both in 30 mile limits,well lit area,early mornings,was doing 35and36.
Very galling,especially when one,I should not be speeding,and two,should have seen the bloody camera.
Do not mind the fines,but the points are very sore.
Still,job we are in,we are more prone to speed,especially when the roads are quiet.

Presumably then don't have much in the way of restrictions on badges in P&K, unlike plates.

Maybe if they tightened up on the badges they wouldn,t need to restrict plates.

Have a read of the Courier paul, they advertise the sites in advance, so you can do whatever speed you want as long as you slow down now and again

What is it about florists in the Perth area?

There was a story last year about a florist who who drove into a newlywed after she complained about the cost of her wedding flowers has had a bill requesting suspension of her sentence refused by the Court of Appeal.

Wonder if they would give her a badge

I dont know much about P&K Mr JD to be honest, but i assume that its quite easy to get a badge if she just wants to do casual work.
