It is called democracy.

Sadly its less of a Democracy now that we are 80% ruled by a Federal Europe....it may have Politicians but it is almost completely run by Unelected beaurocrats...

That asides, i reckon its a Good Idea to make students pay for their own potential betterment, the Genuinely Intelligent and motivated will always find the means to pay for it...It may thin out the 10s of thousands of Mickey mouse students going for Mickey mouse degrees in Mickey Mouse Subjects...thus freeing up Vital University money for serious Students doing Nationally vital and important work and research.

Bang the Anarchist thugs up and give them a book to read inside...they can learn the hard way..im fecked if I want to waste my Tax payers money on them..

Maureen Lipmann had them Summed up..

Do you mean Media Studies, Travel and Tourism? Them 2 subjects are a way to get poor people into UNI.

Thats Right...a Plastic degree in Reading a newspaper and using a Bus...as for tourism...then those that want come here can always find a way, and then the fechers stay!!!!!

If you like the way they do things in France, do us a favour and move there!

Funny old thread innit

Taxi drivers (most) are self-employed mini-businesses, capatilism at its best, exactly what Maggie Thatcher loved yet so many want to bring down a Tory goverment and get a Socialist ruling party back in, when socialism is the last place any business will find a friend, take it to its ultimate conclusion and everyone would be working for a minimum wage for the state....how odd

You're possibly right about this but I don't agree with it at all. We have a system in place that rewards layabouts, alchoholics and druggies but not those that want to better themselves. How can this be right? We spend a fortune educating our children and then suddenly when we are about to reap the benefits of this investment we turn around and say 'we can't afford to educate you anymore but if you want to sit on backside and do nowt we'll pay for that'.

You really do have your head buried in the sand.i remember intrest rates at 18% also remember the tory slogan "britain isnt working"then they get in and presto 3 million and stayed at roughly 2 million for most of there time.Council house sales combined with hyper inflation in the housing market meant little choice.ironic really when you think" property owning democracy" is one of her acheivments. Her polices were based those who have, have and should have more ! Fek the state funeral lets organise a party when she finally goes !!

Where there is discord, may we bring harmony.
Where there is error, may we bring truth.
Where there is doubt, may we bring faith.
And where there is despair, may we bring hope.

Margaret Thatcher 4 May 1979.

And a right load of bollux that turned out to be.

Couple of points

1. This was just a good excuse for a [edited by admin] up and a day out for many
2. Quite a few were anarchist/rabble rousers
3. Many can easily afford more than £3K per year (they spend more than that on ale and cannabis)

Heres one deffo not short... (and 21, so hes had 5 years dossing about already)

A YOB who climbed on the Cenotaph during the London student demo is revealed as the son of Pink Floyd star David Gilmour.
Charlie Gilmour swung wildly on a Union Jack on the monument during student protests - then joked he did it while high on LSD.

so how many "needy" students wanting subsidised fees are really....

The children of the clever parents who formed Ltd companies instead of going sole trader, pay themselves a bare £80/week through the books, claim WFTC for each kiddy in full time education PLUS £30 a week EMA, free prescriptions+dental+glasses, child benefit and even SSP when they want it...

Now ask yourself...

a) whose the mugs
b) is this why there are dirt cheap taxis/PH near me?..

having known a lot of my friends go through university, and having a wife who is a lecturer at a university think that is quite a blinkered view.Education isnt a right of the wealthy ! take a look at your beloved tories and probally the vast majority of former pm,s and look at etons boys club.....

Why should the likes of taxi drivers pay for the education of the rich, or those that will be rich when they qualify?

Graduates will have to earn over £20,000 before they pay a bean, then it's 9% of what's left.

A bargain IMO.
