Why should the likes of taxi drivers pay for the education of the rich, or those that will be rich when they qualify?

Graduates will have to earn over £20,000 before they pay a bean, then it's 9% of what's left.

A bargain IMO.

You're not expected to pay for the education of the rich as these loans are means tested so the rich are not entitled to them. My daughter is not rich by any stretch of the imagination and she's not entitled to a loan on monetary grounds, i.e she earns to much money in her 2 jobs on minimum wage

Why are you all so obsesed with the so called rich ? Thats the whole point of education for all.It used to be that only a select few could go to uni/college now its for all..Seems most people only want for themselves,i always hear my tax is going to scroungers, layabouts, students.I personally know of some very well off people who screw the system for money. Its not a class thing its about bettering yourself.

Seems to me the top end earners of the country will always get a better deal, whilst still claiming tax credits and avoiding tax.

Apparently it isn't for all. It's for those that can afford to pay for themselves or for those that are within the means tested system. Those outside both will struggle to get to university.

and you ask why we're all obessed with the so called rich :? A member of my family is in the 40% tax bracket, how would you like to be in that tax bracket and see so much of your hard earned dissappear?

Feel free to correct me but isn't it just the earnings above the 40% threshold that are taxed at 40%? The bit up to the threshold is still taxed at basic rate isn't it? Also when someone reaches the upper earnings limit for national insurance, doesn't that drop from 11% to 1%?

The "rich" employ accountants to reduce thier tax bills, and a lot pull the "Ltd company employee" scam, meaning they can claim more than a single parent in a high rise flat in peckham....

That's not the point is it really. The fact is if you work hard and earn more than average you're taxed hard and not necessarily that much better off than average earners. That tax subsidises almost everything but higher education and I think it's wrong. Education should be free.

Some 'rich' employ accountants because they haven't the time to do it and pray tell what is the 'Ltd company employee scam'?
