NEW YORK — The city's Taxi and Limousine Commission has postponed a vote on a change to a rule governing what taxi drivers can wear.

TLC Commissioner David Yassky said some unexpected absences meant there weren't enough voting members of the commission present at Thursday's meeting. The vote has been moved to the January meeting.

The proposed ruled change would amend existing regulations governing a driver's appearance to insist on "a professional appearance."

The current rule requires a driver to be "clean and neat in dress." It prohibits specific clothing from being worn as outerwear, such as underwear, tank tops, and swimwear.

The new rule emphasizes broad parameters, that a driver's overall appearance has to be neat, clean and professional.
