Now now Skull. I can see all the crawlers adopting their usual supine position, reaching for their forelocks to tug and tut tutting in unison.

Forgetting of course that this reaction would likely be the end product of a litany of public disrespect that we have to deal with constantly.

Whule we expect no quarter, and this guy clearly went over the top, this is a manifestation of the complete lack of support we can expect from the council and the cops.

Fares can be dodged because the law doesn't protectus. Cops won't attend, and fiscals won't prosecute, caliming that the matter is a civil contract one and not like shoplifting which is a criminal offence.

Nor do we get any quarter on other offnce types.

And when the public complains their sie is taken bu a council too ready to shaft a cabby by taking his livelihood from him, without coroboration and while dneying the cabby the right to confront and questiuoin his accuser.

Weel council and cops. Get this. Pay attention Frank.

YOU are responsible for these incidents. The cby is in jail was predicted by me. You know this and did nothing to orevent it.

I asked you to interpret the law of theft as in England. You didn't. I asked you to set udelins where the trade knew exactly where is stood. You didn't.

Now a guy is in jail, a member of the public could have been killed.

The blame lies with this Chief Constable, this cab inspector and this council.

I asked Gavin Brown to intervene. He shunted it sideways.

I asked Macaskill to intervene. He refused.

A guy is in jail because the system failed us all.

Now we have another cabby hacked off with crap treatment from the public. He was wrong to do what he did, but is anyone really surprised he snapd and let the side down.

The victim is a scumbag. We need to be protected from scumbags.

Finally, it's long overdue for the media to recognise our worth and stop putting us down. We are taxi drivers, not PH. And PH are not taxi drivers. Get it right FFS.

Perhaps then the public will give us the respect we deserve for doing a dificult nd dangerous job, alone and without support, rather than feeding from the disrepspect disseminated by the tabloid press.

If the driver then loses the plot and runs the guy over, a measured response perhaps? I know I'm stretching this a little, but maybe he thought he was carrying out a public service. One less scumbag and the world is a better place for it. I just can't see what the fuss is about.

I can see the point your making, red mist and that, although if caught there's a chance the driver will be sent down.

The cabbie though is a professional in the EYES of the LAW, he should have known better

I agree we don't get enough protection from the law and we need a massive injection of cash to expand the cab office, what that expansion could include is mobile cab inspectors dedicated to patrolling the streets especially on weekend nights, their job would be to deal with incidents like this but also acting as enforcers when phc and out of town cabs pick up illegally, working alongside radio companies they could respond when kids are throwing stones at Taxi's, being mobile would allow them to reach quickly any driver punter disputes ect ect
