I've gotta go to Sheffield tomorrow. If there's anybody on here from Sheffield what are the roads like. Is the snake pass shut and what is the alternative route coming from Skemsdale please. I have put this in the Autoroute but it takes me through the pass

There's a lot of useful up-to-date information on this site:

Hazardous driving conditions have been reported on the A57 Snake Pass in both directions between Bamford and the Hurst Road junction in Glossop.

105 via m62/m1

If you want to play it safe, I would use the M62 and M1. It may be further but with a lot less problems.

and you get to see "the little house on the prairie"

Quote:
Stott Hall Farm

Stott Hall Farm, is an 18th-century farm on Windy Hill, situated between the two carriageways of the motorway between junctions 22 and 23. The road forks around the farm for engineering reasons owing to the surrounding area's geology, though a local myth persists that the road had to be split because the owners refused to sell the land during its construction. This is not the case since the owners could have been obliged to sell via a compulsory purchase order. Due to its remoteness in the Pennines, the farm is often nicknamed the Little House on the Prairie, it is now known countrywide to truckers using CB radio by this name and is often mentioned by Sally Traffic (Sally Boseman), Radio 2's traffic announcer. The farm is now separated from the motorway by crash barriers and a high fence to keep livestock in and drivers out, after some stranded motorists attempted to get aid when broken down. The farm, which was occupied by Ken and Beth Wild at the time of the motorway's opening, is now farmed by Paul Thorp. It is one of the ten best-known sights from the motorway network and one of the best-known sights in West Yorkshire. The farm was used as a location for an early episode of ITV drama series Where the Heart Is and was the subject of a short documentary film.

Mmm Not looking forward to this. Incidently whilst looking at http://www.highways.gov.uk/default.aspx I found Make time for winter: www.highways.gov.uk/winter and on there it mentions a system that they are trying out on the A2 Jubilee Way in Dover, Kent. The system sprays anti freeze on the road. Has anybody seen it and does it make a difference. Personally I think it would have been better testing it further north, over the border

Think of your own and passenger safety
