I would like to nominate as best council the few councils who let market forces decide and don't set limits or fares.

Perhaps we could call it the 'Maggie' instead of Oscar for that award.

I also nominate as biggest EGO in the trade, save those of us on TDO, to be a certain editor of a certain monthly magazine.
And if he says sayonara once more !!!

Thats a consideration, perhaps I can find a category for that. But wouldn't Mr Kavanagh be disputing Favouritism for that one. By the way, does the magazine you are referring to begin with the letter P?

Best wishes

Will it be you or will a committee be formed to decide ?

Can I put your book forward for an award within the best fiction section, as well as M&R. Although both are well written and informative they offer a viepoint bias to the author and their own preferances.

Nidge should retain his title of most handsome.

Are you refering to TDO as in Taxi Driver Online or as in TDO the member, as M&R was reported to be written by more than one person its not fair to assume that TDO the member can take more than part credit for M&R if indeed he was involved at all.

I think you're taking it a bit too seriously Angel.

And splitting hairs

Since the awards will probably focus on the negatives, perhaps a better analogy than the Oscars would be the British Comedy Awards :D

Tom is right about the lack of awards in the trade, but perhaps the problem is that our services are generally local, thus it's difficult to comare services on a national basis.

But some firms do get local awards and do get national recognition in one way or another.

In all seriousness.

Every other industry in Britain has at least one sometimes several Annual awards events saluting the best in their industry.

I think it is a classic example of why this industry has the reputation it has, in that it isn't prepared to acknowledge the best in the industry.

If someone wants a business opportunity then there it is.

I aggree with that and we should have a town chosen to have a dinner and present the awards, I can see it now the top table with binnie in his black tie, the most exclussive awards I have been to in the binmans ball

Institute of Waste Management in Torquay apparantly Stewart from diplomat was there!   5 star Imperial Hotel.

anyway I would nominate Watford for the first so Nige can get in some union practice.

if you choose Manchester for gods sake dont pick anywhere on the one way system!

Some of my nominations include:

Best comedy:

Like JD, it has to be the Trans Comm.

Biggest faux pas:
Again the Trans Comm has to figure prominently:
Peter Perkins 'falling' off the fence, apparently confusing deregulation with derestriction, and Clive Efford not knowing what waiting time was with regard to fares.

Most ironic headline:
OFT ko'd, across the front of Cab Trade News after the Govt response.

Most baffling remark (that's putting it nicely):
Joanne Connolly re de-restriction means sex offenders

Worst council:
Brighton for the briefing for the recent meeting, and the meeting itself (2005, but close enough) Liverpool for advertising for more HC drivers despite the lack of work and rank space :?

On the forum
Dr Spock Lookalike:
Nidge

Entrepreneur:
Tom Thumb

Lifetime achievement for contribution to trade forums:
Sussex, Nidge, Angel, Wharfie

All round knowledge and sagacity:
Andy7

Best newcomer:
Greenbadgecabby, Eric the viking (where did he go?)

Determination and tenacity:
Sussex

Endurance:
Ged :D

Trade knowledge
JD, Sussex

Most long-winded err I mean sagacious posts:
TDO  , JD

Brass neck:
Angel, Wharfie

Most info from a single location:
Steveo

Best car:
Steveo

Biggest improvement:
Mr T (I'm not saying why :D )

Best all rounder
Captain (mainly because he can't make up his mind!!!)

That's it folks, any more and it might start getting offensive :D

Note that only members with 100 or more posts have been considered for my nominations, apart from newcomers :D
