I think people have the wrong idea about Government. They seem to think that the party who is in charge of running the country. The country is run by the civil servants who wright up the laws. They may be influenced by the party of the day but I doubt that it goes much further than that. The parties just debate the issues.

I think you're about spot on with that view.

There is talk that diesel could be up to £1.50 a litre by the summer due to oil prices rising
If it does how will those with tx cabs cope at an average 24 MPG and cannot get fare rises to compensate???

Only when it suits.

It doesn't suit when it comes to fuel duty rebates like Stagecoach, they get millions back every quarter for fuel duty.

under labour we had the biggest ever increases in stealth/indirect taxation, as you know

Which accounts for zero......I dont know if you noticed.....Labour are not in power......perhaps your beloved government will now right all the wrongs of the previous government?I wont hold my breath though.

as much as Labour did (even ignoring taking us into wars we couldnt possibly win)

BTW, I didnt say i was a tory-supporter did i? i just dont think expecting a goverment in power such a short time to right the wrongs of 12 years of Labour mis-rule very sensible. Labour never stopped slagging the tories off and KEPT blaming them right to Browns demise

But you're pro-tory / daily mail diatribe is long established.

For the record I have a history of slagging off the previous labour regime and their illegal wars as do the ABD for that matter.

Take note of what Cameron stated BEFORE he was elected;

Quote:
the words of Prime Minister David Cameron before the General Election, on how the previous government had hammered drivers with various taxes. He added that that his party had got to do things very differently and make life easier for families facing sky-high motoring bills. [1]

He even indicated that he could help families by cutting fuel taxes when global fuel prices rise.

They havent been in power 1 year yet, and already they're lying b*stards?

When the fuel prices go down they still earn millions a day in duty.

The VAT on dev is already at 19.5% so will it be going up 0.05% to make it 20%, that means petrol will have a 2.5% increase

skippy do the maths fuel accounts for 15 to 20% of the take so even a 20% hike in fuel costs isn't going to suddenly bankrupt every cabby in the land just put a dent in the profits there should be enough of a margin to absorb such a rise but it will mean less money available after the bills are paid for lifes luxuries
