With the exception of the first, many LAs will give you a taxi drivers licence without the others.

These are not tools, they are skills.
A screwdriver is a tool. Knowing what do do with it is a skill. 8)

Either way.....the two licenses are distinct.

The 'tools of the trade' line is a chuckaway.

Then therein lies the problem.

Tell me CC, do you not see a problem with the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker having taxi licences, when the taxi driver can't get one?

So perhaps the problem is the criteria of person that obtains the license and not the quantity of people that obtain licenses

The taxi driver can have one......indeed to be a taxi driver you need a license......a license is permission afterall.

I do see problems with taxi drivers being butchers and bakers though, athough admittedly there's not much call for candlestick makers these days.

In part, yes.
There would be far less demand from cabbies for licences if so many of them were not blocked by outsiders whose only interest is fleecing drivers for as much rental as they can.

You didn't answer what was asked.
You wrote a pile of bollux instead, which in no way answered the question.

Never mind, here's another chance .

do you not see a problem with the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker having taxi licences, when the taxi driver can't get one?

I'm sure you will find another way to avoid answering.

More drivel.

You have a taxi drivers license not a taxi proprietors one.

Nobody is denying you access to drive ffs.

CC

What use is a taxi driver license without a vehicle to drive? We are being denied unfettered access to the tools of our trade, and what's more. Drivers are reduced to nothing more than casual labour as a consequence - inequality, discrimination and exploitation.

Only a complete plank couldn't see this, CC.

Here I don't agree. A taxi is the tool of a driver's trade. Without it he cannot work.
A driver has no need of premises, except as somewhere to get his mail delivered.
BTW how does the post office deliver to your cab, if it is your premises?

I disagree.....having the ability to drive, having the knowledge to navigate the streets, having the ability to deal with situations and the public......those are the tools of the driver.

The vehicle.....thats the tool of the vehicle proprietor.

CC

The only tool in your post is you CC.

Oh, but wait a minute, you're going to quote chapter and verse from the CGSA 1092 aren't you?

I thought not.

A bit like telling the sparky he can work where he wants, but he can't buy his own tools and must rent them from another sparky, the bricky, the plumber or the local butcher.

Priceless

Yje key is that discrimination ,eans that someone qual;ified to operate a taxi dos not have unfettered ccess to the tools of his trade.

It is the fettering that is discriminatory.
