Okay I am a hackney and as such I generally have no sympathy with P.Hs!

But! is it not about time that the authorities took on board the fact of life that the companies that charge them to find work do not have enough work for them, and that is the main reason for the drivers doing what they are doing!

To stop them (the companies) just taking on drivers to line their own pockets regardless, companies should be made (as a condition of license), to justify, taking on additional drivers by proving that they can give them at least a liverable income for each driver @ a 40 hour working week.

If the P.Hs get caught after that, then throw the book at them.

If the companies disregard the rules....shut them down.

Even HC's on a circuit can only dream of that John but sadly you've got greedy operators who will stack the cars up making them thousands each week while the drivers are sat out there trying to earn a living with inflated car rents, radio rents being the norm in all parts of the UK.

I have a massive amount of sympathy for those comments, and you have to wonder at the mentality of Delta who keep taking on 100s more cars when the country is in the mire.

They will quote they do millions of jobs here there and everywhere, but they never quote how many each driver gets, or what the average income is for those drivers.

And the reason for that is the drivers are on poverty wages once their expenses are deducted.

And the really sad thing is that Delta ownership actually think they are the beacon to which all firms should aspire to.

The fine is based on the drivers' earnings.... that is why they are asked to provide proof of earnings.... I thought everybody knew that

How is this so then ? I have been to court on plenty of things, and never provided proof of income.

If you don't provide proof of income, you tend to get shafted when it comes to a fine.....

TBH, given this weeks performance in front of the select committee, and the strong liklihood of nationwide national legistlation, I think the most pertinant thing you can tell people in Blackpool is actually to join a national body that will fight their corner.

That isnt the mob you lot are currently attached to either.

Isn't it in Blackpool where some cabbies are banned from ranking in the town centre? :?

I have only recently got my badge and am wary of falling foul of the law. On two occasions recently I have been asked for rides having just dropped passengers outside bars. I have merely said to the customer, office number is on the side of the car, ring them from your mobile and the job should get to me. I haven't even allowed the customer into the vehicle until the job came through. Everyone seemed happy!

That can still be seen as plying for hire so you should be careful. Whenever anybody asks me to pick them up I just tell them to ring the number on the side. I often move on only to be brought back to the same place to get the customers I've just spoken to. It's a little inconvenient to do that but it is as I see it the proper thing to do.
