Driver's appeal against Epsom and Ewell Council dismissed in court

A driver who appealed against Epsom and Ewell Council's decision to refuse him a licence to drive private hire vehicles has had his case dismissed in court.

Sammi Zeqiri, from Epsom, was refused a licence by the council's licensing committee in July last year on the grounds of protecting the public.

The committee heard how Mr Zeqiri had been convicted of battery in 2009.

On January 7, Redhill Magistrates' Court dismissed Mr Zeqiri's appeal and ordered him to pay £280 towards the council's costs.

The council's Licensing Policy for Taxi and Private hire states that where an applicant has committed a violent offence, a period of between three and five years must lapse before an application will be considered.

A guy around here allegedy threw a microwave at his mrs.

He lost his badge for 12 months and was re-licensed.

I must admit I didnt think he should have had his license back.

The other week my daughter got in his cab, she told him she didnt have enough money to cover the fare, but he took her home anyway.

I saw him a couple of days later and thanked him.

A week or so later another driver dropped my daughter off in the middle of a rather rough estate when her money 'run out'.

Now I know my daughter is perhaps taking the p*ss......but.

Some people may call that "home".
Some people say that they don't have the full fare and ask to be dropped off when their money runs out.

Perhaps your daughter should make a habit of keeping enough for the fare.....

There is no "but" and you knows it!.........she should with a dad in the trade.......know better.

I always say to people..............you know you have to get home..so why did you drink your taxi fare.

Unless it is a genuine stolen/lost purse wallet situation ( yes, and how do we know if that is the case) then they get very little help from me. A tenner or twenty put in the bottom of your shoe before they go out, should sort that one out

If my daughter goes out on the sauce and runs out of money or, drinks her money like some of you say on here she always pays when she gets to the other end. Most of the drvers know who she is and who her father is. When she gets dropped off some of the drivers say, "give it to your dad he'll give it me in the morning" or they'll let her nip inside to get the money.

Whats wrong with running out of money on a night out?? Don't tell me you never did it?

So most of you would drop a lone girl / woman off when the meter reached what she had left in her purse?? Myself I find that deplorable that a Taxi Driver could do such a thing.

Only last Saturday / Sunday morning night I noticed a girl walking home who we pick up several times a week, she had a decent walk ahead of her some 3 miles, I pulled up and aksed her if she was OK and what was she doing walking home at 2am in the morning on here own?? She said I've spent up and I'm drunk I didn't want to trouble anyone. I said get in your walking no further. I dropped her off home on my way through to the job I was on my way to. She said "I owe you big time thank you".

Monday morning comes round and there's a message for me in the office, it read, "can you thank your driver for dropping my daughter off a home on Sunday morning and making sure she got indoors safely" could you please tell me how much the fare was so I can pay him? Once again thank you very much indeed it's nice to know there are drivers out there who still care.

Now the above warmed cockles of my heart.

You shouldn't jump to conclusions.
No I wouldn't do this and I have taken many a lone female home for short or even no fare. Some pay later and some don't.
I have a conscience and it sometimes costs me money but at least I can sleep so it's probably worth it.

The point is that these lassies should not be relying on the decency of drivers to get home.
Keep enough for the fare and don't drink it.

Never ever because I had respect.

If you are big enough to go out until god knows what time of the morning drinking...............Then you are big enough to take responsibility to get yourself home.

Like many I have done exactly that (but I am not going to make a career out of being a good samaritan)! make no mistake when word gets around, (and they will remember you to their mates), you will be working for nothing.

Remember the old question?

If it was YOUR daughter caught out in the snow, no money, no phone signal or credit, would you expect the PH driver who sees her at 2am to drive by her..................

Not me............and I really mean.......not me. I always tell people who have been over charged, that I do not, as I can make a good enough living without ripping people off.

You missed out the...........starving to death bit, also after she had been working a 15 hour shift and having had no sleep because she cannot afford a bed or floor to sleep on................this was her first night out since having the last of her 10 kids. She had saved so hard for this night out but forgot that prices had increased since 1909 ish and and and..........Give me a break!

No doubt you also do the same for the guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. It is not your keyboard that is wonky................your screen is upside down.

To clarify the above, when I say "Like many I have done exactly that" ...............I have not turfed a woman out if she has run out of money, if I can sense that she is genuine.

But here comes the double header bit...............I have turfed the guys out. Only on the grounds of they need toughening up and better preparation for life
