If things are as bad as you say, can I take it that owners arent actually having champagne lifestyles, as the airport1 claimed?

Unless rental levels have dropped, I don't see it making much difference to the owner.
Unless he drives and has a jockey, in which case his own takings will be down.

Which gives credence......if demand is low the plate prices will be low.......so now's the time to buy!

I was asked a question and tried my best to answer it.

The guy is obviously peeved with paying £340 per week.

I merely suggested he could buy a cab and plate for that amount.......you could even go work for him, at a rental he thinks more appropriate.

You guys.......

Both.

Most of the current plate holders bought in to what they thought was a sure thing.
Loans taken out against their homes with a business model which included rental income based on a second driver.

Owner now has reduced income due to the economic climate, as does the jockey.
If the rental gets reduced, the owner will struggle to pay the loan back.
If the jockey decides it's just not worth it, the owner is totally fecked.

Now the guys whose plates are paid back probably can afford to drop their rentals to keep their jockeys.
Some income is better than none. This will further squeeze the owners with debt.

Rock and a hard place?

But that doesnt sit too well with owners having champagne lifestyles.

And the guy has said he could operate perfectly well with 600 additional taxis.......so I figure he aint on a loser.

I don't suppose most of them do.
Point is that unless rental prices fall dramatically, non driving owners will see little change to their income level, champagne or otherwise.

That would be because he wouldn't have to find £340 every week to pay his rental.
Buying a similar cab and paying the insurance repairs etc would cost him a fraction of that amount. The reduced level of takings would be less than the amount he'd save on rentals.
Add a huge loan for the plate and the sums go out the window.
He'd be the one needing a jockey to make it all pay.

But Edinburgh is restricted. So the debate is should surely hinge on him paying £340 per week.

I suggest if he's paying that, and earning a grand per week, he could easily afford on that his own cab and plate.....

As skunk has alluded to, the prices are falling.

If the council derestricted, the gamble didnt work, but then he'd be able to point the finger at the gruesome twosome........that aside, and according to the theory people have been spouting.....he'd still be earning a grand a week and therefore able to pay it off?

No, my house is at risk through deregulation already.

But where's the risk for airport 1?

Are you telling me his takings will go below a grand a week?

And so everyone can raise £50k to put a car on, even assuming they wanted to risk derestriction?
