In Lancaster taxi and ph drivers are required to wear a seat belt with no customers in the car, once you have a fare on board u need not wear a seat belt until u have dropped ur fare off the (main reason for this being that quite a few driver esp night drivers have been strangled with seat belts from dickheads in the rear of vehicle,) although i think the police turn a blind eye to this as i never wear a seat belt and have been pulled up many times for spot checks and never been fined for no seat belt..... from a safety point of view though i do wear mine when going on the motorway.....

There are no powers that allow anyone to insist a taxi driver wear a seat belt when free of customers, yet looking for work.

Quite the opposite.

Hardly typical and it wasn't meant to be a riddle. I was merely curious as to which statute they referred to or used when they gave you, the learner, the information on the £300 3 day course

so long as you all realise that any compensation paid following any accident will be reduced if you happen not to be wearing your seatbelts

if you live

Whilst you are looking through the literature, see if you can find the receipt and ask for your money back. Private hire are required to wear the seat belt when they have no passenger on board. Hackney drivers are exempt from wearing the belt at all times whilst working.
