Don't think being regualted increases PH, Dundee is deregulated and every month there are new application for PH.

Thats because your council insist on a WAV being provided to be a hack, and owners voting with there wallets by buying a cheap saloon and go PH

I wonder what would happen in an area where all hacks where forced to buy a LTI WAV , and every owner decided to go PH instead, it could happen one day if fuel keeps going up

You ask what would happen if the council insist on a WAV being provided, well you can quite easily answer that question yourself. What would you do if you had to get rid of your cheap saloon taxi and provide a WAV?

I wasn't asking what they'd do I was asking what you'd do

it isnt a Hack vs PHV contest

its how the punters GET a vehicle that makes the difference

there are more (connected) mobile phones in the UK than there are people, they RING for a vehicle

so, if the majority of Hacks sit on ranks with no radio, while the majority (if not all) PHV are just a (free with inclusive minutes) call away, whose gonna walk to a rank?

and thats the difference 1911 vs 2011

dont blame the PHV, blame the hacks, though they will always have the tourist "iconic london cab" trade to fall back on

There isn't in London, but we still have 70'000 Minicabs which are growing by the day.

Did anyone say it was?

A hack can do everything a PH can do plus street hails and rank work.

So Question:
Why go PH if hack is a viable alternative?

Answer:
When you can't license a hack or the conditions of doing so make PH an easier alternative - e.g. must license a WAV, must pass knowledge test etc

Agree with most of this.

My point is that PHC is an easy option for organised crime gangs to infiltrate, something has to be done and be found to close the loop hole that allows this to happen

Creating multi plate request criteria such as making PHC companies pay for a survey's of demand is i believe a step in the right direction, it would benefit the individual PHC plate holder but seriously close the door of infiltrators who just want to profiteer at the expense of the individual PHC licence holder.

We have to lobby our LA to see if this can be done, We have to lobby our trade reps to ask the question when Multi PHC plate request's are made, the question is a simple one

PROVE IT!!! where is the evidence of demand (radio work) and are you willing to pay for an independant survey to prove your company has un-met radio work demand?

Hard to prove in my book but definitly a step in the right direction as far as stemming the rise in PHC

Didn't your mate Kenny MacAskill address exactly that with the (Licensing of Booking Offices) Order 2009?

Licensing companies is one step but restricting entry and growth is another, our trade should be about the individuals and we need to create as much protection as possible for those individuals. regulation and restriction acheives that

So in reality, It has bugger all to do with criminal elements.
You just want another layer of restriction. Now there's a shock.

Stemming the rise of PHC and the easiness of obtaining multi PHC licences, you know everything in moderation GUS

The product sells it self, we as individuals sell the service, that's why professionalism and investment is requied to maintain the product we offer in EDINBURGH

Restriction provides us with the tools to maintain our trade
