Afternoon
Its that time again (6 monthly mot test) and whilst crawling around underneath the TX1 seeing which holes need to be patched this time i discovered what looks to be a leaking wheel cylinder .

On closer inspection it seems to be diff oil (smells like it) over the rear brake hub and tyre, wheel bearing was replaced ( not by me) approx 12 months ago and i know they had real problems getting it off the shaft. What are the chances of it being damaged or is there a seal that can be replaced , or is it a case of just buying a new halfshaft and bearing kit?

Anyone had the same problem and if so how did you overcome it? Cheers in advance

I had a few leaking seals on all of my LTI cabs.

I belive the part costs about £6, the job is about £40.

I seem to remember it's worth getting new bearings whilst the jobs being done.

Not since I took the tablets!

Mine is a Metrocab,
2 years ago I took it to a garage to sort it out, they diagnosed (wrongly) that the wheel brake cylinder was leaking.
A few weeks later the smell of burning Diff oil was evident on the wheel rim. I did the job myself, no seals in the early Metrocab, just clean the mating surfaces with isopropyl alcohol, rough them up with fine grade carbide paper and use some blue silicone sealant.

Job was a good 'un, time taken about 1.5 hours.


ps - jack up the axle you are working on higher than diff to prevent oil seeping out whilst you are preparing and sealing the job.

Thanks again for the replys...................turns out the last "specialist" who replaced the rear wheel bearing overlooked a rubber o-ring that apparently comes with the wheels bearing, so a new bearing and labour charge for a job that was done incorrectly in the first place!!!
